Re: Changing fuel guage float

If you can afford it buy the lock ring tool from Clark's. Amazing tool and it makes the job much easier.

Re: 110 vs 140 crankshaft

If the nitriding is .010" deep a .010" under crank would still have .005" of nitriding, wouldn't it? Of course if it is only .005" deep it would be gone.

Re: Our 1960 Monza Coupe

Why would you think the transmission was replaced in 3 years? I can't imagine anyone buying a brand new transmission for a 3 year old car. It could have been replaced 50 years later.

Re: Clarks front shock absorbers

I can say I run the KYB Gas-A-Just on several of my Corvairs and love them. Not so much on the rear. I bought a set of Clark's a while back and they look very high quality and they have nice round holes in the mount instead of the slots. I haven't installed them yet but mine are rears. I'm hoping th...

Re: Stiff steering

I have about 10 of the nylon bushings. The last couple I installed one I had to hone a little and the other was slightly loose.

If they still print their own catalog like they used to they probably could send you a pdf of it. Someone should call them.

Re: 64 4 speed clacking noise from clutch/trans?

Does the cable still have free play? If not, it is too tight and that will mask a bad flywheel. Any pressure on the clutch will stop the noise of bad flywheel rivets.

I can't remember either but it seems like those were the funky square ones that are the same on both sides?

Re: which transaxle oil to use

Maybe 80s GL5 wasn't what it is now?
I ran GL5 in a couple of my Corvairs in the late 80s/early 90s and 2nd blocked died in 10k miles or so. Back then I figured they were just weak and I was hard on them.

Re: EM heater box rebuild?

The cable moves the arm and I made sure the arm is against whatever stops it. Maybe the door came loose from the shaft but I would think the arm wouldn't stop then. It does flow less with the lever up so I'm guessing the seal is just completely gone.

Re: EM heater box rebuild?

I pulled my heater hoses off and it blows almost as hard and is still quite a bit above ambient temperature??? I guess there is a high pressure area around the heater box and the transaxle is heating the air? It is much cooler and smells better than before but still is going to overcome the A/C in t...

Re: heater fan motor

You can wire an ammeter in series with the fan motor to directly read current or you can use an inductive ammeter that doesn't have to be wired in. I bought an inductive Textronix ammeter about 30 years ago and it cost $220 from a friend that worked for them getting it for me at his cost. It is grea...

Re: which transaxle oil to use

One critical problem with the Pennzoil is that I don't believe it is a hypoid oil so it isn't good for a ring and pinion. Big no on that one.
