If you need to change the o-rings buy the tool Rex sells. Makes the job easy compared to almost impossible.

If it doesn't have holes I would try Evaporust. When it is done there will be no rust. It is expensive but there is a guy on YouTube that tells you how to make your own for very little money.

There is a rear cover mod that feeds the turbo cooled oil instead of hot oil. Do that.

You can probably source that generator end frame from a local Corvair club for cheap if not free. The alternator conversion can be expensive depending on where you can find the mount and an alternator.
