Re: Bench Wrenching
No turbo ever had factory A/C and '65 140s didn't either.

2LZ - where the politics hurt you is when they destroy a forum like happened recently with Corvair Center.

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
"GM had little experience with riveting flywheels" Isn't that the very definition of incompetent? "not having or showing the necessary skills to do something successfully." I never heard the engineers specified Viton. I have read the engineers were ignored on the Vega aluminum sp...

If you need to change the o-rings buy the tool Rex sells. Makes the job easy compared to almost impossible.

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
"The GM engineers know everything" is a bad argument. They didn't. If they did they would have used hot rivets in the flywheel and Viton push rod tube o-rings. Viton was available. A lot of things were done because it was cheap or because they could get away with it when warranties were 1 ...

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
I hadn't thought about it much but I would think being bolted to something that runs 250 degrees or more would cause it to run hotter than being bolted to something that stays at ambient temperature. I'm not sure it matters. I've never had an oil filled GM coil fail. I have had a lot of the newer ep...

You get 90% good advice here and about 95% bad on Facebook. I feel sorry for the newbies there. I don't see how they can sort through it.

Re: Rust removal project
If it doesn't have holes I would try Evaporust. When it is done there will be no rust. It is expensive but there is a guy on YouTube that tells you how to make your own for very little money.

Re: New to page
There is a rear cover mod that feeds the turbo cooled oil instead of hot oil. Do that.

Re: 1962 727 Resurrection
You can probably source that generator end frame from a local Corvair club for cheap if not free. The alternator conversion can be expensive depending on where you can find the mount and an alternator. All my earlies still have the generators on the except for a couple that a previous owner converte...

Re: New Member. 87 Octane gas
I found this on the Aviation Pros site: "The (MON) number is typically 8 to 10 octane numbers lower than the (RON) number. The autogas (MON) octane number is similar to the aviation rating of octane up to 100 octane, according to ASTM D 2700. When you purchase autogas, the octane rating is the ...
