Re: Spark plug oddity
If you are looking them up it's called a Time-Sert. You can get the kit on eBay but it looks like that is what came out with the plug. Was the plug really hard to get out? If the insert was properly installed the plug may have been cross threaded into it but it should have been very difficult to rem...

Re: gas tank sending unit
I've swapped lots of tanks and never even thought about removing the crossmember. It isn't any issue to do with the crossmember in place. The Clark's tool is amazing. After messing around with those retainers for years I would never go back even though they aren't really that difficult. If your time...

Yes it is a 4 digit number that has to be crossed to a six digit key code.

Pick it yourself. Not too difficult with a little patience. You could also check your local club for someone with a set of tryout keys. There are only 64 of them.

Re: Miss and rough at idle
'66vairguy is right about the Pertronix. If it's the Pertronix1 then running with the stock ballast wire is the way to go even though that isn't the way they tell you to wire it. I have several wired that way and they work great. Fix that vacuum leak before messing with anything else. Check to make ...

Re: new key replacements
I would love to buy some B10 and B11 blanks. I'm looking for a good source but the lock suppliers I've talked to won't sell to me since I'm not a licensed locksmith. I've got so many Corvairs I need to be able to do them myself. I have a key duplicator and a Curtis clipper.

Re: turbo noise
Does it make boost? If yes, then I can't imagine it's the turbo. The fan bearings can make some strange noises and be intermittent.

Talk to Ken Hand he has the hot setup for FC springs and shocks. The Clark's bushings are great. They are something hard like nylon not urethane.

Re: Motor into transmission
Make sure the converter is seated all the way by making sure it has space between it and the flexplate when the transaxle is bolted to the engine. If you bind it up things can get broken.

Re: Shut down when a/c is running
I believe it was Ken Hand that said the Pertronix 1 is more reliable with the resistor wire. I have run several of them with no issues on the stock resistor wire. The ignition dropping out wouldn't normally cause the fuel pump to quit unless it's being run from a relay that uses the ignition to stay...

Re: Rebuilt Engine, no power?
The cylinders won't fill unless the throttle is open. Compressing a partial vacuum doesn't make much pressure.

Re: Rebuilt Engine, no power?
You did have the throttle wide open when testing the compression and spin it several revolutions?

Re: Rebuilt Engine, no power?
If it was truly 0 lash then you are correct but he did it from tight on a .002" feeler. The spring in a lifter with no oil won't make anything "tight" in my experience it is very difficult to feel it at all and very easy to end up with a bottomed out lifter. He was using new lifters w...
