Re: N.O.S. Early 556 Battery on e-bay

That’s nice! Especially since they don’t make the repros of the 556/557 any more and the battery compartment dimensions are so unique. Would love to have it for my ‘63, but at that $$$, needs to be saved for some senior concours show car. Original class. Maybe just as a dry battery installed once th...

Re: Heater Fumes Let's Get Real

Some say drizzle some warm water mixed with tide or other laundry detergent into the fan while the engine is just warming up, keeping it at idle speed. And with the heater on high and hot. Never done this, but makes sense and may be worth a try.

Re: Points gap versus Dwell Angle

Are you sure your dwell meter is set to a 6 cyl engine? Setting it to 8 cyl would lower the reading.

Dwell reading is more accurate than the gap, since it actually shows how long the coil has to saturate.

Re: Seat Belts in 1965 Monza

I have a 1963 Monza. Anyone have any idea if there are holes for lap belts in the back somewhere under the seats or if I would have to drill them? Thanks, richard Unless your ‘63 had rear seat belts added by a dealer or aftermarket, there wouldn’t be holes. There should be dimples where the holes s...

Re: Is... this splatter paint? 🤔

Looks like factory spatter paint to me. At some point, Chevrolet moved from the lt. gray/white trunk paint to the darker gray/aqua flecks, I think it was for the last couple model years of Corvairs and not consistent across the different production facilities so not sure what your ‘67 came with. As ...

Re: 1965 Correct Possi fluid? 4-speed

Amsoil sells a good synthetic oil for this, GL-4 so won’t mess with the synchros. They have lots of dealers plus Clark’s Corvair parts sells it. Like Dave said, put in a posi additive if you hear it squealing or stuttering around turns (otherwise don’t worry about it). https://www.amsoil.com/p/manua...

Re: ‘63 Spyder Convertible

Finally got the turbo back on the car. Shout out to Steve Goodman at Rear Engine Specialists in Golden, CO who rebuilt the turbo and Carter YH carb for me (as well as providing sage advice on them!). No one better on these than Steve, who has been working on Corvairs since they were new. (and heck o...
