The socket (power port) stayed on, but when did they stop providing the lighter itself?
My 67 Monza also has 2 side ashtrays in back.

Re: 140 engine rebuild
I only use black engine paint which claims to be heat, gas and oil resistant on shrouds. Black stove paint on the internal baffles snapped to the cylinders.

Re: Rear Motor Mount
Yep, it's shot, so kiss $140 goodbye for a 66-69 style.
Easy to replace, just get a jack and a 2x6 under your oil pan to hold the motor up while you replace it. No need to disconnect any lines or linkages IIRC, you just lower the motor enough to clear the 2 downward studs on the motor mount.

Re: Tube or tubeless tires
The only car I ever bought new was a 2005 PT Snoozer. It came with a 7 year/70K mile power train warranty but curiously, the steel wheels it came with were not covered. IIRC the wheels were only guaranteed to be leak-free for a year or two. Such confidence in their work. Not sure if the problem was ...

Grease Those Carb Gaskets
Luke AKA Thunderhead289 and maker of the "Carb Cheater", shares an interesting "old timers" trick at 11:00 in the video below. Namely, greasing carburetor gaskets to make them non-stick and reusable. Never heard that before, but he's a capable motorhead. Worth a try since we have...

Re: Clark's Corvair Catalog as PDF
What amazes me is seeing people trying to SELL old copies of a Clark's catalogue. See it from time to time on FB, Craigslist, and even ebay. Dennis Some people gotta collect 'em all, I guess. Frank Costanza had a TV Guide collection. I do have a few old catalogs from Sears & Wards (Christmas Wi...

At a quick glance, he did better on installation. Hopefully jmiahman can watch without cringing. :tu: He mentions in both videos that he "doesn't know, he's never done this before, he's learning on camera." Sure seems like joining this forum might have been worth his while. https://youtu.b...

Re: Stiff steering
Good fix, was the old nylon bushing totally mangled/deformed? Sounds like the old idler arm was not the problem, so hang onto it. As you know, new ones ain't cheap.

Wrong Way to Pull a Motor
Youtube is also full of how-NOT-to videos: see 34:30. Pity the poor input shaft and torque converter spline (and old seals).

Re: EM Removing Front Springs
Compare and contrast the Corvair's independent front & rear suspension to that of the Cybertruck. Each wheel/tire weighs 88 lbs at 50 PSI. What a monstrosity.
Well-done video though.

Re: Electrical System dead
Wow, if that simple controller sells for $65 then I gotta get into the fuel pump controller business. That one has a relay, but fuel pump current is fairly low so that a medium-sized mosfet could handle it easily. I would also build an impact switch into it, maybe a rollover switch too. Fun to think...

Re: Electrical System dead
From the website: Pump only runs if there is a tach signal from the ignition (Just connect to the negative side of the ignition if you don’t have a factory tach) Sounds like you did that, eliminating the main safety feature of the controller. You need to run a wire to your coil for proper function..

Starr Cooke passed late Oct 2023. R.I.P. I texted Starr's phone and got a confirmation of that, sorry to report. Daniel Ghanim replied that he is Starr's assistant of 15 years and he is running Starr's shop at full speed. His contact info: eastcountycorvairs@gmail.com 619.201.3717 in El Cajon, CA

Not Corvair, but an amazing repair of a really broken rare cast iron block. Waiting for part 2.joelsplace wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 1:23 pm The broken block could be welded but probably not worth it unless you have an RR block.
