Rear End Swap
Do any of you have experience swapping the rear end on the 1964 Corvair? Specifically, from the C6 Corvette? What does the swap entail? Are there guides on how to do this? If the Corvair transaxle does not fit, that is OK. Mostly interested in how to attach the C6 Corvette rear end onto the Corvair ...

Re: Corvair Racing Springs (1964)
If you have a 64 it has the "FACTORY" rear leaf spring that was far better than the aftermarket units. Also the 64 had unique rear coil springs not used on any other year (one side is different than the other). If the rear camber is off, then you'll need to install new springs. The front ...

Re: Corvair Racing Springs (1964)
Interesting little bit of info about the leaf spring! In terms of spring height on either end man cause non-standard tires/wheels to hit the body. The majority of rubbing is for sure a result of the giant tires. The lowering (if lowered) may have something to do with the rubbing. The car sits in a n...

Corvair Racing Springs (1964)
Purposing my car (1964) for street and strip. I upgraded the wheels to 18", with wide tires. The car appeared to have been lowered prior to me purchasing it. Seemed like the springs might have been trimmed. If they weren't trimmed, then maybe the age of the springs has induced some extra softne...

Re: Powerglide AWD
The transaxle would be purposed for a 1,000hp motor. Apparently, 1966 and younger Corvair powerglides have the same gearing as the "big car" powerglides. Since the "big car" powerglides can support 3,000hp when built, the 1966+ Corvair powerglide with the 4 spider gear built up s...

Powerglide AWD
Is there a way to add a transfer case to the powerglide transaxle? If feasible, would the transfer case be mounted between the differential and the powerglide case? What would it take to work the transfer case into the powerglide transaxle?

Re: The Tough Questions: Powerglide, Lockup and More!
Interesting. Do you know of a way to get lockup to work and if anyone fabricated a lockup system with the Corvair? Besides the mounting points, would a separate transmission be compatible with the differential, such as a traditional powerglide, TH400, 6L90, et cetera? Thank you for the informative p...

Re: The Tough Questions: Powerglide, Lockup and More!
Interesting post, though off topic. 1. Is the powerglide on the Corvair as robust as the traditional powerglide? Are the gears, shafts, et cetera the same diameters? What is the diameter of the differential ring gear? 2. Can a lockup torque converter be implemented with the transaxle? If yes, how? 3...

Re: The Tough Questions: Powerglide, Lockup and More!
Fun wiki quote. Thank you. :welcome2:  Welcome to the Corvair Forum! The Powerglide is a two-speed automatic transmission designed by General Motors. It was available primarily on Chevrolet from January 1950 through 1973, although some Pontiac models also used this automatic transmissio...

The Tough Questions: Powerglide, Lockup and More!
Hey Corvair Community, A few questions: 1. Is the powerglide on the Corvair as robust as the traditional powerglide? Are the gears, shafts, et cetera the same diameters? What is the diameter of the differential ring gear? 2. Can a lockup torque converter be implemented with the transaxle? If yes, ho...
