Re: 3rd time is the charm

I used the method you described. The first time I used a 1/4 turn of preload. When I went back I used a 1/2 turn. As stated the muffler was my issue. Its sorted out now.

3rd time is the charm

So I got a little ahead of myself the other day. I thought my hot valve adjustment went great and the next day I was humbled. It was as if I had gotten nowhere. It was better but not like when I finished the day before. So I went at it again and got it sounding great and I was happy but this time I ...

Re: Vent window frame

I have a very clean 66 vent window frame. Very slight pitting. Good glass and the rubber is great. I now have and EM and this has been sitting in the parts bin for 20yrs. If your interested let me know.

Re: Engine squeak noticed when turning off ign.

I just finished the hot valve adjustment. Figured I may as well get it a dialed in. She is purring like a kitten. Very pleased with the results. We will see tomorrow if I will have to do it again. Thanks again guys for the thoughts.

Re: Engine squeak noticed when turning off ign.

I got the problem figured out. First I took my strait pipe off and put the muffler back on so I could hear what was going on. That made things much easier. Plain as day the squeak was coming from the drivers side. Turned out it was the #6 exhaust rocker. I replaced it with an old one and all is good...

Re: Engine squeak noticed when turning off ign.

I have ran the engine and got underneath to listen and can't hear the squeak. I have also removed the valve covers and checked the pushrods for proper install and the rocker arms for signs of heat. All looked good. I also looked in through the damper doors and it was clean as a whistle. No signs of ...

Re: Engine squeak noticed when turning off ign.

It's a faint squeak that you hear when engine is idling. You can barely hear it. It is most audible when shutting down engine. I made a video but I don't know how to post it. I realize that hearing the issue will make it much easier to diagnose.

Engine squeak noticed when turning off ign.

What could cause this issue. The engine is a 64 spyder that has been totally rebuilt. It has under 200 miles on it and runs great. I just don't like the sound of a squeak when it is shut down. I have checked the fan and idler and they are fine. I checked the spark plugs and they are torqued to spec....

The only way there is airplane or snow machine. Floats in the summer and skis in the winter. Another picture in the winter.

I thought you might like this picture. This was taken last August at the family cabin. My father has had this property for close to 40 years. This is interior Alaska.

Re: Corvair Lakewood 61 - NL

I just spent some time going through the posts of your build. What a great job you're doing. I am very impressed with your perseverance. The documentation of your work is great. I wish I had documented my resto as you have. A great restoration is all in the details. When you add all the little thing...

Re: What type of intake to build?

The 64 spyder came with a b flow turbo. The hybrid turbo is a great modification. The big bore cylinders and larger stroke mods are big money. The machining alone will cost you around 3500 buck. If you are building a NA engine I would go with the big bore set up. The result with the VW jugs will be ...

Re: 65-69 Suspension on 64?

I wouldn't spend that kind of time or money on a swap like this. I will agree that it is cool but in the end the swing axle set up can be made to perform very well. A little negative camber in the rear(2-3 deg), wide base wheels with performance radial tires, and adjustable dampers. I would also low...

Re: Judson Powered Corvairs

My father had this setup on his 61 Monza 4sp. He said he got 2-4 lbs. Of boost. Very little difference in performance from stock. It did show its value at speed for passing. It also has a wow factor when you look under the bonnet. The wow factor wasn't enough for him because he later purchased a new...
