Squealing throw out bearing was mentioned as a possible cause of your noise. Could it also be caused by a dry pilot bushing. They have to be properly lubed for installation. I also remember people having problems with some pilot bushings that contained steel (could pick them up with a magnet). They ...

1960 4 DOOR 4SPD LOOKS ORIGINAL $2,900
Friend sent link to me. I'm looking for late models. Car looks original, complete, and in fairly good condition. I don't know how to post a link but you should be able to look in Jackson, Tn Craigslist and find it. If you are interested in 1960's this one might be worth checking out.

If I remember correctly disassembly is required to install baffles on an assembled motor. They go between the push rod tubes and the cylinders so you have to pull push rod tubes to get them in. I have cut them into pieces, worked them into place, and tacked back together but that is as much trouble ...

Also check to be sure that the baffles that go between the pushrod tubes and the bottom of the cylinders/heads were not left off when doing some previous work. This happens often and keeps heads from cooling properly.

Good point. The tabs on the fork should be round not with flats on the side. Used to TIG weld the flat spots and file back round. No I'm not a cheapo Corvair nut.

Is it my imagination but are the back sides of those ring gear teeth really chewed up? Could some pressure plate "rebuilder" have possibly flipped the ring gear and welded it back on out of position?
