Alternator Brace
I'm looking to change from generator to alternator on my Corvair. I have the main engine mount, but could someone post a photo of what the smaller brace looks like. I don't know what I'm looking for. Thanks

Re: Spark plug condition
Had the same situation trying to get a good idle. A quick bead blast and good as new!

Re: Runs rough
I'm going to give the valve adjustment another shot when I get the car back up in the air with the new info I have. Also will work the timing a bit more as suggested. If it is the cam (and I don't think it is) this car is done, it is a project already, and will likely be sold as-is. However I don't ...

Re: Runs rough
I would have to agree. I'll get it back on the lift and remove the oil pan. I know I can see the lifters from there. Can the cam be replaced with engine in car?

Ok, here is my data: Compression #1 120, #2 120, #3 130, #4 120, #5 135, #6 150. Timing @ 12 deg. btdc with no vacuum. Dwell @ 32 deg. 800-950 rpm idle. Thanks.

Re: Runs rough
All too true, Ted, on the passenger side I could adjust them all out until they clattered. On the drivers side no clatter on #4 and exhaust #6. That is why I thought lifters or push rods but Jerry is right, check the cam first and work my way out. I will come up with a dwell meter somewhere today. I...

Re: Runs rough
Thanks, I'll look into that. Don't have access to a dwell meter, however. And you are right about assumptions!

63 with a 66 2 carb engine. I've rebuilt the carbs (not much to that) set timing, etc, pretty much everything you do to tune an engine. When I got to adjusting the valves, I noticed on one side I could not get some of them to clatter or rattle. Could I have a few bad lifters and pushrods? I'm making...

Some engine interchange questions
In my 63 I have a 65-67 engine #T0228RD. With the car came engine block #T0212YC and heads 3813513 I read are 62-64. The block halves are mint clean, and the heads and crank are straight from the machine shop, crank turned and valves and new seats, etc on the heads. Also came with lifters, complete ...

Re: The belt and such other newbie troubles
Well that explains it. Took a look when I got the car and said "Oh look loose belt'' and tightened it up real good.
I'll put some research into the alternator swap. Thanks.

The belt and such other newbie troubles
Here is a question I imagine is as old as the Corvair itself. What causes it to sling the belt? Also, what is a good replacement belt? And lastly, what is involved to swap to an alternator? Car is a 63 with a 66 engine, but still has a generator. Thanks.

Yeah, this has had some very untalented hands on it. Fuel line in the tunnel was clamped with zip ties.

Re: Rear suspension
I've got the complete set-up minus the center bracket and some rubber parts which need replacing.
So I have a 63 with a 66 engine, a 64 transaxle and transmission, and a 60 front emblem.
Total FrankenVair.

Trans seal
Leaking from the very end of the trans where the shift rod goes in. What is that seal called? If I was looking at the right parts, I saw one called a repair seal. Is it a seal that could get you by for now? Thanks again.
