Trans seal
Leaking from the very end of the trans where the shift rod goes in. What is that seal called? If I was looking at the right parts, I saw one called a repair seal. Is it a seal that could get you by for now? Thanks again.

Re: Throw out bearing
Thanks for the info, sounds like a workout. I should have mentioned that I'll be doing this on a lift and lowering the engine onto a sturdy table or cart. (Pictured. Ignore the Buick!) :tu: Went over all the PDF's, very informative. I especially like the cradle-stand and will construct one to keep a...

Throw out bearing
Need to replace the throw out and pilot bearing on my 63 (66 engine). Have done this before on conventional setups where I could just move the trans back for access, but unsure of the proper way on a Corvair. Do I drop the entire package or just remove the trans? Looks like either would be just as e...

Re: 63 brakes
Looked at my "options" and the most cost effective after all was Clarks and Rafman for drums. Thanks

63 brakes
Doing a full brake job on a 63 conv. that likely sat for a while. Bad news is the drums. Yes I know I can get them from Clarks, before I do I'll look at my options. I have a 64 parts car with really good drums which I can see are different. At the front, could I use the 64 drums if I change out cert...

Rear suspension
I noticed that the 63 and 64 have different rear suspensions. Is the 64 with the transverse leaf spring an improvement over the 63? Is the leaf the only difference? Thanks.

Re: Heater
Like I said, so much of the system is missing, and on this car it would not be worth it to mess with. I'll save what is left in a box. However for defroster (defogger) a small marine bilge blower married to the defroster tube with a toggle switch should work fine.

Re: Heater
Thanks. Most of the heat system is missing or in poor repair. It being a convertible and living in Florida, I don't see that I would ever need heat.

Heater
If you do not need the heater system to function, is there any downside to eliminating the components? Thanks

Just realized someone before me had the screen name naderwaswrong spelled differently. I would be willing to change if you could show me thru the process.

Re: My first Corvair
Thanks again, a lot of info. Not looking for a 100% original car, just gonna get it roadworthy, patch up the floor, give it a buff and shine and enjoy it for now. Picked up the parts car I mentioned today and as expected it's total junk. Will pick off some pieces I can use, then off to the scrapper....

Re: My first Corvair
Thank you that is a lot of info. I assumed the shrouds may have something to do with cooling. These look quite beat up so I will be looking for replacements at some point. Not interested in restoring the heater feature as I am in Florida. Thanks also for the vin decoder, I will look up numbers soon....

My first Corvair
Hello, I'm Roger and I just picked up a 63 Corvair Monza Convertible and included parts car I have not yet seen (yippee). My specialty is mid 60"s GM A bodies, but I could not resist this one. Two questions. Is the metal shrouding around the lower engine all necessary, or is it for inside heat ...
