Re: 66 corsa convertible a/c car

I'll be interested to hear what you find as far as the VIN plate rivets and the hidden VIN if you go after it. I once went to look at a Corsa for sale and on the VIN plate there was just one number that was stamped crooked, guess which one? You gussed it, the "7" in the spot that denotes it's a Cors...

Re: Corvair Farmers Insurance Commercial.

Well, my only real complaint is that this commercial furthers one of the many Corvair myths. I think the reason some people think the Corvair is infamous for engine fires is myth cross-pollination from the Fiero. =P Incidentally, the Fiero fire reputation isn't very well deserved either, the problem...

Re: 1965 Front Trunk Lock

I assume that's supposed to say 1965. =D Any late model (65-69) lock should work. Try the Corvair Ranch in Gettysburg PA, I'm sure he can get you a salvage lock if that's what you want.

Re: My Corsa 140 - UK Owner

Congrats on the car, it's a very nice example. That telescopic steering setup is pretty rare and desirable. Here in the US you can easily sell one complete for about $1,000 USD.

Re: Early Model - what should I buy?

I'll weigh in here with some opinions. Turbo cars are a really cool novelty, but they are less reliable and need more attention. In really hot weather or mountainous country overheating can be serious problem. Consider them to be for "advanced" Corvair owners. If I was to own only one Corvair it wou...

Re: Apittslife's '66 Corsa Turbo

Enjoy! Make sure you follow the guidelines for your first engine start-up that Brad Bodie usually posts. I will neither confirm nor deny that I've had to use a fire extinguisher on the first start of a Corvair that had sat for a long time.

Re: NEW CORVAIR MUSEUM UPDATE

Man, that's a long drive for me =(. Looks great! The Doug Roe car, #5999, Fisher Body #6001, the Super Monza, and some of the crazier customs we've all seen on the internets, all in one place! It would be cool to see the Carl Sagan Spyder there too, though I don't blame the owner a bit if he doesn't...

Re: OPGI Catalog Delayed

I pre-ordered the catalog and opted into promotional emails so I'll let you know if they spam me as well. When I ordered the catalog I added a note that I found out about them on CorvairForum.com =D

Re: OPGI Catalog Delayed

Eeek, the thought of Clark's getting bought out is scary to me but better than some alternatives. Still looking forward to hearing what OPGI can do for us, I've never dealt with them myself and don't know their reputation. I know they are big and well known, that can be good or bad.

Re: Alternator issues

Wait, Did I miss something? No doubt the generator needs to be rebuilt or replaced, but this shouldn't prevent the engine from starting. I'd think this is a separate issue no? You should be able to just start it with no belt on it for troubleshooting, obviously don't let it run that way for more tha...

I've never had any issues with the factory generator. Missy (my wife) has a modern amp and speakers and plays music pretty much at all times when driving and still has never experienced a low battery even after hours spent in traffic.

Re: Hi from Frankfurt / Germany

Tim, Welcome to the community and the hobby! Here in the US one of the nice things about the Corvair community is that most people are fine with modified cars, more so than a lot of other models of car. Personally my preference is mostly for "period correct" modifications, so installing styles of ma...

Re: Blow by smoke through the PCV system

Did your PCV valve come from a Corvair supplier? I know my FLAPS gave me the wrong one and I believe it caused the same kind of problems you describe. I personally prefer a road draft tube to avoid any possible issues. Alternatively I have used the later model Corvair PCV that has an orifice instead...

Re: Rescuing a wagon in Nevada

I seem to remember that from the 1970s magazines. How did you like the 1962 2-door Lakewood I posted above? I've seen the Trans-Am station wagon in person at the GM Heritage Center in Detroit. It's not open to the public but the Detroit Area Corvair Club has been given an invitation quite a few tim...
