Re: Lifters noise at start up

The car belongs to you. Run what oil you want and pay no attention to opinions.

As a general rule, you set idling at a stop light a lot in Florida. Not so much in the desert...

Re: Front window regulator

I'll second that and add that you pay attention to any screws removed that seem overly long.

Re: wheel shake

The balance weights welded to brake drums sometimes come off. You may need to back off the front wheel brake adjusters for the hub and drum to spin freely, then spin and watch to see if a drum falls to the same position every time it stops spinning. If so, replacement may be easier than getting it b...

Re: Blow by

Penetrating oil works very well with old engine oil and would contaminate whatever is in the oil pan.

Please explain what damage could possibly happen to this unit by following my suggestions. Something more substantive than subjective opinion...

Re: So what's the deal?

I can speak a bit about Florida cars. Spent the '80's in Palm Beach County as an auto tech. Coastal FLA cars rot from everywhere salt air touches. Inland cars rot from upper horizontal surfaces down, tops, cowls, top of door and fender, hood and trunk lid and seal channels. But you can work on brake...

Re: FC transmission mount

No luck with CC for me. The on line ordering system would allow only shipping to the billing address, which is 150 miles away. Phone calls went without answer. ???

Re: Blow by

I'm not here to step on toes or cause friction. My bonafides include 45 years of air cooled experience at dealers and as an independent which cause a level of confidence of opinion that can be offputting and seem coarse. That said, to believe that a change of oil will lead to a solution of the state...

Re: Blow by

I differ in opinion on this. And, this will make some oily mess... Were this problem mine, the oil cap comes off, the plugs come out, the points lead is disconnected from the ignition coil, a battery charger is hooked up and then we run the starter for 15-20 seconds at a time with a 60 sec rest betw...

Sadly, my rig has the proper trans. Have also checked with Corvair Ranch and some others. Thanks for your consideration.

FC transmission mount

Hi all. New guy, first post. My Greenbrier has a 4spd trans supported (poorly) by a mount intended for an automatic trans. As hung, the left bank is an inch or so below where it should be. This also gets the rear wheel alignment off. I'm hoping to find info as to the actual differences in mounting b...
