Re: Oil where it shouldn´t be, and vice versa.

I don't know your mechanical abilities but if you can remove your shrouds you can replace your exhaust packings. They are not difficult to replace.

Re: Oil where it shouldn´t be, and vice versa.

This is a long shot but while the lower shrouds are off, check your exhaust packings. Look for evidence of exhaust leakage around the exhaust tubes to manifolds

Re: What oil for a 1964 Corvair monza?

Corvairs need zddp to protect the lifters and cam. We can use most any oil we choose but should also use a zddp additive. I don't like to hassle with additives. I use diesel oil (crankcase, not fuel). It includes the zddp additive. Several brands come to mind. I have used chevron dello for years. Sh...

Re: What oil for a 1964 Corvair monza?

Basic description: The corvair engine has flat lifters. Back in the day, oil had zinc and phosperois, also known as ZDDP additive. This gave a protective film between the flat lifter and the cam lobe. When cadilitic converters came onto the scene. Zddp clogged them up. Also, engine had roller lifter...

Re: am-fm reception

Make sure the antenna mounting is right and has a good ground. You can test the nut to ground to see what you have with an ohm meter. Often the bracket underneath is corroded and not grounding properly. If corroded. Clean the underside of the fender through the antenna hole along with the bracket. W...

Re: OPGI Catalog Delayed

Due to a change in management, I have been transferred out of the Research department at OPGI. I am now tech support for customers and the sales staff. I really like the position. This means however that I no longer have anything to do with the Corvair catalog. Dave Thompson Sent from my [device_nam...

Consider installing a USB port on the console. I did and I use it all the time.

Re: Remote oil cooler for Greenbrier

If you want to operate your fan with an oil pressure switch, Get a PS122 (Duralast) switch from auto zone. Standard motor parts also makes one but i don't know the part number. It has a terminal that goes to ground with no oil pressure for the dash light and a contact closure pair of terminals that ...

Classic industries has on for rather little $. I had one on my 63 spider before it was stolen. Only problem was the reduction of front end clearance. I could cruise at 70 with no problem. I also had rebuilt the suspension and steering so everything was tight. Sent from my [device_name] using Corvair...

Re: Led lights in Corsa dash

Only use incandescent bulbs for the gen light. LED's won't work. One side of the gen (alternator) lamp has 12v. The other side has the output of the generator, (alternator) 12v. When all is good, there is 12v on both sides of the bulb. No differential voltage, no light. If you draw excessive power o...

Re: Rampside Door Closure Mechanism

Sometimes, the latch return spring breaks inside the door. If the latch does not open when manually testing as discussed above, the spring may be broken. Replacement springs used to be made but are discontinued. You may need to get another latch with a good spring. Also, mine were crusted with old d...

Re: Dielectric Grease for sockets and plug wires.

An old retired marine airframe & powerplant mechanic told me once that they ran out of dielectric grease on a Pacific island during WWII. He started using vasoline on all wire connectors on the corsair & p38's. It kept them from corroding in the hostile environment. I have used it ever since...

Where do you live? There may be a local CORSA (Corvair Society of America) club chapter near you. Members often offer direct assistance, tools, parts and local advice that could be useful as you go through the Corvair learning process. A broken crankshaft in a stock Corvair engine is somewhat unusu...
