Re: Shift shaft seal removal

Ok so i finally got it out. I couldnt give up and remembered reading that some people cut it out so that tells me it can be difficult if they’re old. Here’s a pic 6B7753E2-4B74-45FE-A650-C1684EFF429E.jpeg I don’t know how old it was but it has a spring inside of it. Ive not heard of a seal with a sp...

Re: Hello from San Francisco - 65 Monza

If you buy it let me know. I live in SF and love to meet up with other Corvair owners. I’m working on a leak at the moment.
Stay away from the mechanic in the bayview. He will take your money and not do the work. Best to do the work yourself.

Re: Differential seal leak?

The short answer is yes you will have to pull powerpack out of car to replace the seal at throw bearing snout. But can’t tell from pic where oil is leaking? And what kind of noise was it making? May have damaged your differential or transmission if low on oil. The noise was a while ago and i only a...

Chirp whistle Air leak. Help finding?

Weather is nice now in Northern California so I’m working on the 66. What I’ve noticed is a chirp whistle. Sounds like an air leak or metal rubbing. But i just can not find where it’s coming from. Any suggestions? It only happens when i accelerate and in low gear- neutral or first. When i initially ...

Re: Brakes

I'm not a pro, but you're going to need to open the lines and bleed anyway for wheel cylinders. If rubber parts of brake lines look dry rotted (or they're original) might not be bad idea to knock it out. Yeah the more i look i think it’s all toast. Makes sense to do both sides as they are most likely the same age. And i should check the rears i guess too. When i spin the wheel i can hear/feel the tension in uneven ways so guessing out of round also? I’ve always noticed this while driving that when i...

Brakes

1966 Corsa: Right wheel brake cylinder. When brake is applied lightly only rear shoe moves. So I’m assuming cylinder is broken. Couple questions. Am i supposed to replace as a pair? Meaning right and left wheels? Also i am assuming this shoe is a goner. IMG_6382.JPG Opinion on buying LAPS or waiting...

Re: Road Candy 65 Corsa 140

Hey Corvairs! Just sharing that I've put about 2500 miles on this 1965 Corsa since mechanical rebuild, and I've spent a lot of those miles, debugging and fine tuning. Although it's been running fine, I've had a little idle fluctuation and occasional carburetor "spitting." Then I discovere...

Re: Gas in oil

Have you been able to verify fuel in the oil other than sniff test ? Personally i would not use this as my primary way of saying there’s fuel in the oil.
