Re: A question about the 140 carbs and other 140 topics.

Right, for some reason I thought you had an automatic. The 140 with a manual trans (particularly a 61-3 4-speed with it's lower first gear) is wonderful right off the line. The ideal build (IMHO) is a 140 with a dual-pattern 280-duration cam (Otto Parts/Clarks OT-20, for example) and headers. That ...

Re: Please Help! 63 Turbo just won't run!

Grasping at straws here, but does it have a harmonic balancer? If so, I wonder if maybe the rubber is going (or has gone) bad? Hopefully you can hook up with some local Corvair peeps because they are a world of help, believe me!

Yes, details are always good! I love the Corvair engine but also love seeing different approaches.

Re: The Manual says the Oil Cooler is 8 to 12 lbs on the bolt

When I replaced mine, it leaked a little when torqued to 8. I then torqued it to 10 and no leaking; that little bit made the difference.

Re: Isky cam numbers on cam?

Thanks Dave! I was hoping I could pull the bellhousing cover to see. It'd be nice to see those set screws as well!

Isky cam numbers on cam?

I was wondering, does Isky stamp the cam number into the end of the camshaft like I've seen on other cams? I was hoping to see what a particular Isky cam was by pulling the bellhousing off to expose the cam gear end.

Re: Seat belt anchor points

Matt, I'm not sure on the fronts of an early, but many times there are dimples in the flooring indicating where seat belt mounting points are (at least it is like that in the back of my '65). Not sure if that helps or not, but figured I'd throw it out there.

Craig, that kit you mentioned sounded (and looked) pretty reasonable. I found out that the minimum horsepower would be 250, as it flows 835 cfm.

Re: High Compression

Here's an update: I found my original compression test data sheet from last spring (!?!) All values in psi: #6 -135, #4 - 135, #2 - 150, #5 - 180, #3 - 150 and #2 - 150. I may try the SeaFoam idea first (carefully) before I pull the heads, if only just to see if it is effective at all. So okay, I'l...
