Re: 1965 Monza Coupe Thread

The first order of business was to replace the front springs. The car made a little noise over bumps... The reason was obvious! Broken driver's front spring http://i634.photobucket.com/albums/uu70/Tim_D_63wagon/1965%20Chevy%20Corvair/42152EB1-015C-4CAB-A8E4-C3D48CF7EB4A_zpsrkqvr8ge.jpg The car sat a...

1965 Monza Coupe Thread

I thought I'd keep a running diary of my project, and what better place than somewhere that another person may come across a similar issue! My car is a '65 Monza Coupe that I purchased in November 2016. It's a 110/PG combo that is very original, and I plan to keep it that way (minus a few bolt-on ap...

Re: Is Turn Signal Switch Removal REALLY This Hard? (1965)

Got my new switch on this weekend. I really didn't have too much trouble getting that snap ring seated. As Country98 suggested above, my steering shaft also "retreated" into the mast jacket about 3/8". The procedure I used was to: 1) Slip the ring over the shaft and press it down with...

Re: Is Turn Signal Switch Removal REALLY This Hard? (1965)

Good advice all, thanks. I ended up sacrificing the old, inoperable switch to the electrical gods. I'm thinking getting it back on won't be very difficult if you make a "sleeve" tool to push it along the shaft until the ring seats back in its groove. Sent from my iPhone using Corvair Forum...

Re: Is Turn Signal Switch Removal REALLY This Hard? (1965)

Snap ring?!?

Interesting that this part is neither mentioned nor shown in the service manual. Awesome.

Thanks for the heads up. So it's easier to remove the snap ring BEFORE the 3 screws? Because my 3 screws are already out...

Is Turn Signal Switch Removal REALLY This Hard? (1965)

I'm having a bear of a time trying to get my turn signal switch to release on my '65 (standard steering column and wheel). Section 12 of the Chassis Service manual says to simply remove the direction signal assembly (after removal of steering wheel, wire harness, and turn signal lever). My switch WI...

Re: What is the age range of Corvair Fans? (POLL)

50 and first Corvair, but have owned a few GM classics previously (and have a '62 Skylark currently).

Mine's a '65 Monza coupe, and I simply fell in love with the looks (and the buy-in price!). Can't wait to get going on this one.

Re: New Guy in SE MI

I would like to encourage you to expand on your initial post and tell us more about yourself, your Corvair, and your goals for your Corvair. If you can describe your personal assessment of your mechanical skills and abilities, that would help a lot. Members of the Corvair Forum love to be helpful i...

New Guy in SE MI

Hi All, Just picked up my first Corvair, a 1965 Monza coupe wearing original paint. Looks to be a pretty solid starting point (the previous owver had it on a lift so I could completely look it over). It's a 110/PG combo. After the purchase, I proceeded to drive it 50 miles home! The only issue was I...
