Re: 1963 Convertible Rear Seat
Convertible rear seat bottoms were in low supply back 40 years ago due to rust out of the springs from water leaks! I was taking a sedan (2 or 4 door) rear seat bottom , removing the upholstery and cutting/welding the frame to look like what was left of the convertible frame. Cover with convertible...

Re: Install FC Windshield
I can no longer find my favorite windshield tool on the internet, to show a picture. It is a red handle with a bent round rod out of one end that ends in a ball. You use this to get up inside the rubber groove and flip the edge of the rubber where you want it when the string does not work properly ...

Re: Install FC Windshield
i use the string and liquid hand or dish soap method. If you have trim that goes in the gasket after you get gasket on glass. I leave the two ends of the string overlapped and out of center top or bottom. Marking center is good. Not good is getting the glass halfway in and an inch off center :td: I...

Re: Shout Out to O'Reilly's
I find O’Reilly’s best if I need to buy locally. NAPA a close second. Lucky they are also the closest All the locally owned places I liked to buy from dried up in the last 20 years of moving here. I guess it’s my fault?

Re: Melting wires, simple question
The external air adjustment screws on a Rochester H, HV are just to set idle mixture. So, just set for best idle! :tu: Mixture at running speed/load is set by main jet size and float level. :chevy: Running premium for your area right? I hesitate to mention octane ratings, as they vary at pumps depe...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
That's all Yes , Frank! What you said goes along with what I said. The bigger the gap the higher the voltage can rise before the spark shorts the circuit and reduces the voltage to zero. High voltage = corona, higher current, sparks going to the wrong paces, and other ills. 80 thousandths is ...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
For the coil conversation: I agree with 66vairguy on all points. BTW, the coil voltage only rises as high as the spark plug (and rotor gap) lets it. AS soon as the spark plug fires (just like the rotor gap fires) the gap becomes zero ohms, so the voltage goes to zero. You just need to have enough v...

Re: Tim Cortrofeld?
Google finds not too much, but I found this from 2018: https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/cotrofeld-automotive I remember Tim when he came with Bill and Kathy to our Virginia Vair Fair in 1983 (?). They were vending lots of NOS Corvair parts back then. Tim was probably 10 or less at the time....

Re: Melting wires, simple question
What evidence do you have that 3 ohm coils don't have 3 ohms worth of windings and have a resistor instead? None, as some do and some don't. It is how the manufacturer made it inside. Back in the old days I saw many coils with "INTERNAL BALLAST" stamped on the case. But, as long ...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Question
I don't believe that fuel can pass from an electric pump through a disabled mechanical Corvair fuel pump, because the internal one-way valves in the Corvair mechanical pump would block fuel flow. Nope! The fuel flows through the mechanical just fine, as that is the normal direction of fuel...
