Re: Corvair mechanic needed in South FLA

I have also reached out to Eddie Meadows and waiting on an email or call back as I have not been able to get a hold of him. He was also recommended.

Re: Corvair mechanic needed in South FLA

Thanks guys I will try those two places before I look for out of state options. Unfortunately from the sound of it I may have dropped a valve seat but I won’t know for sure until I get it looked at.

Re: Corvair mechanic needed in South FLA

So I called JB imports and they told me they stopped working on corvairs 15 years ago and cannot/will not service them anymore.

So I guess I have to keep digging.

Re: Corvair mechanic needed in South FLA

Thank you guys for pointing me in the right direction. I would say that yes I am in the tri-county area. I’m in Ft.Lauderdale. I am willing to take my car to the Tampa area but I would prefer something closer. I will also send the Corvair chapter nearest to me an email with the one you guys provided...

Corvair mechanic needed in South FLA

:helpsos: Haven’t been on here in forever but spoke to Ken Hand up in Michigan and he recommended I post here to look for a vair mechanic. I have a 65 Corvair Corsa Turbo coupe that started making a whiny noise when shifting into 1st and reverse. I was told it’s most likely pilot bushing and possibl...

Re: Dropped valve seat cont...

Hi, checking to see if anything ever came out of the power window question? Really want to get a kit or know what to use for my 63 convertible. "As far as the power windows, I will call the shop who had them installed and ask for a copy of my invoice so I can see the brand and model they used....

Re: Dropped valve?

Owning a classic car like a Corvair without being able to do your own mechanical work can be a real challenge, since it can be difficult to find a professional mechanic who has the knowledge and experience to work effectively on an older classic car. The turbocharged Corvair is unique and sometimes...

Re: Dropped valve?

Wed Dec 27, 2017 2:48 am Thanks for your reply. You guys seem to have way more knowledge than most shops that have tried their hand on my Corvair. As far as the fuel setup, I believe there is an electric fuel pump and mechanical as well with a bypass. I have to look at the build sheet again. I had ...

Re: Dropped valve seats part 3

With respect, a dropped valve is a pretty serious thing and also very easy to diagnose. What’s going on that caused you to pull the heads? My paranoia with dropped valve seats bc it happened before and cost a good amount. And bc when the engine gave out on me last month the same thing occurred, eng...

Re: Dropped valve seat cont...

I've been reading back through your previous posts and developed a couple of questions: You stated that you had dropped three valve seats. Were all three in the same head? Are any of the dropped valve seats a repeat of the same valve seat in the same cylinder, or were they all different? In looking...

Re: Dropped valve?

I have a 66 corvair monza, symptoms are no power, low compression on cyl 6, and engine overheats. Are these symptoms of dropping a valve? Sent from my [device_name] using Corvair Forum mobile app I thought I dropped a valve on mine about a month ago but it seems to be something else. I have a 65 Co...

Re: Dropped valve seats part 3

One of the things I learned is sometimes it is less expensive to find a set of good used heads to have PROPERLY rebuilt. Decades back before I knew much about Corvair engines I picked up a few sets of 140HP heads for what I thought was a bargain. Well ---- when I went to the local Corvair head rebu...

I have a 63 convertible and am looking to make a custom center console for a hidden double din radio, cup holder and auto window switches. Dropped valve seats part 3

Hey Guys, I think I posted in the wrong section previously. I’ve had a terrible luck with dropped valve seats , 3 Times already, and each time paying too much from a local shop and machine shop that clearly can’t tackle this problem. I’m located in South Florida and although I’ve gotten some respons...
