Re: Crazy Georges 64 Greenbrier!!
Nice van. Wonder why they only filtered the fuel to the right carb? I would get rid of any plastic or rubber lines or filters in the engine compartment. On that same note, the fuel pump and those clamps look fairly recent. Nice find!

Re: "Buried in a Corvair"
Those rules about caskets mostly concern having the casket in a cement box. I used to work at a cemetary as a groundskeeper. Great money as a teenager. The old section of the cemetary from the late 1800's and early 1900's before that rule came to be was a lot of work. The caskets would rot out and c...

Re: 1962 Monza 900 first drive
This week I tore the dash out of the car and replaced all the light bulbs. It turns out all of your dash lighting CAN be burned out. now I can see the guages, shifter, non working heater settings all at night! Turns out its not a quick job as you have to lower the steering column and disconnect the ...

Re: 61 loadside? just can't tell. Help please!!
I dont think DMV's were very particular on titles back in the day. I bought a 53 Chevy truck from my father in law, it was titled as a 49 and had a crazy vin number on the title that almost matched the 53. Turns out he told the lady wrong at the DMV when he titled it and they issued it that way. If ...

Re: 84 HP heads on a 102 motor
I see... My 102 heads look like those 80hp in the picture above. My 84 horse heads are in my car right now also and hopefully wont have to come off too soon :-)

Re: 84 HP heads on a 102 motor
A quick look at Clarks tech tips on heads shows a clear difference between what they call 80/84 heads and 102 heads. The 102 heads have a large ridge where the 80/84's are wide open. There just has to be a compression difference there. As far as NOS heads, I wouldn't have much fear in running them, ...

Re: 84 HP heads on a 102 motor
Good to know that the 84 and 102 heads are the same CR. I was concerned that they weren't. In the interest of adding more info to this topic, anybody know the difference between 102 and 84hp heads besides the part numbers?

Re: 84 HP heads on a 102 motor
I have the opposite on a motor I just picked up, I have 102 heads on an 84HP motor. Its my understanding that the increased compression of the 102 heads makes detonation more likely and may have to run high octane fuel to get completely rid of it. The 84HP heads on my current running engine do not p...

Re: Speedo accuracy
Your options are kind of limited then. Have a friend tail you with a trusted speedometer. Or fly by the police and when he tells you just how fast you were going, you can compare to your speedometer. One of these is obviously cheaper.

Re: 1962 Monza 900 first drive
You are correct and that thought has crossed my mind. If I can find someone seeking a lakewood engine, I would gladly trade for a 62-63 engine. Same with the ZF 64 block, I would trade it for a 62-63 engine. I hope to make it to my first Corvair club of Arkansas meet in January and will pitch it to ...

Re: 1962 Monza 900 first drive
Put over 100 miles on it on black friday, highway and freeway included. Runs great with no smoke aside from a faint puffing from the draft tube. I then went on a parts collecting spree as I want to build a motor for this car so I can swap it in with minimal downtime. I hate letting my project car si...

Re: Roadmap for Restoration
I would put the tubes back and spray some carb/brake cleaner at it and use a rag to wipe it down. Or stuff a rag in there and see how carefully you can spray and wipe the dirt away, then when you pull the rag out, whatever is near the hole should come out on it. Just a few ideas. *hypothetically of ...

Re: Turn signal suggestions?
Just to provide an option if you care to, but somebody put an old school signal stat on mine. Looks like they were having cable problems and just unscrewed the stalk, cut the wires going to the plug at the column and wired this up. I plan to undo all this and fix the factory stuff one of these days....

Re: Roadmap for Restoration
Just know that between all the Corvair forums, local clubs and resources available, you cant screw it up too bad. Parts are not so expensive or rare that you need to worry. Just study up on the valve adjustment first. I have an extra set of valve covers coming next weekend and im going to cut them i...

Re: No power problem
I have noticed while running mine up on jack stands that the rear wheels spin in neutral with the ebrake on also. It doesnt pull very hard, car wont move down on the ground. Normal? You can take the top off of the carb without removing it from the car, then clean some things out including the jets a...

Re: No power problem
As mentioned already carbs sound likely. You would be surprised how well a Corvair can run on 3 cylinders. Rebuild them. Also might want to consider running an extra fuel filter to prolong your carbs and catch junk from the tank before it reaches your carb stones. I run one down by the drivers rear ...
