Re: Leaking from fuel pump
Next week it will get a compression check done and see what is going on with the cylinders. It also has an engine rebuild just before I purchased it, so maybe the rings have not seated yet, that is something I just thought about. It has about 1500 miles on the rebuild.

Re: Leaking from fuel pump
I removed the ventilation system and every thing is clear and free of any obstruction. I could do a compression test if I can talk my brother into driving 2 hours to get here and give me a hand. Other than that I do not have the expertise or the money to start doing major repairs on this vehicle. I'...

Re: Leaking from fuel pump
I do believe the vapor is venting from the pump. When I remove the oil filler cap the venting disappears. That would be the only reason to have a cast feature in the middle housing. The odor is somewhat of a petroleum smell not strong like gas. Thanks Brad and Jeff for the time you took to research ...

Re: Leaking from fuel pump
Jeff, It is not gas vapor and it does pulse with the operation of the pump. I did think the notch was some sort of vent but not being an engineer I was not sure. I'll have to check tomorrow in daylight and open the oil filler cap off and see if vapor is still present. I sure didn't mean to open such...

Re: Leaking from fuel pump
I'm pretty sure it has to do with the gasket material itself. Mine is venting right at that casting notch in the middle section.

Re: Leaking from fuel pump
As of now installing an electric pump is not feasible, cost wise. In the future it will be possible but I'm not comfortable installing one myself. My main concern is the vapor I see while it is running. I'll probably get it warm again and see about re-tightening the 6 screws holding the pump togethe...

Re: Leaking from fuel pump
Yesterday I had to change the pump as it started leaking again. The new pump I put on is not leaking but there is vapor being emitted right at the notch in the pump. Is that a concern?

Now it won't start
Hi all, I got the rebuild carbs on and hooked up, Yea!!! Now it won't start. It acts like there is no power to the plugs, I here by myself and don't have a way to check. I did some investigating and found 2 broke wires from the coil for the electronic ignition, but I don't have a clue how this syste...

carb rebuild
Hi all, I'm in the process of rebuilding the carbs in my 1965 Monza 140 HP convertible. I started working on the first secondary and it is missing the pump discharge needle. Is there supposed to be one in the secondary carburetor? Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Re: ENTER - Corvair of the Month February 2017
1965 Corvair Monza 140 HP with PG transmission. It has the original interior and it came with an AM/FM radio. I purchased this beauty last summer and the only thing I have done to it is add the accent pinstripes. I runs and drives great. I'm just waiting for spring to roll around so I can get it bac...

Re: Hard starting
Good. That eliminates a lot. There are a few possibilities. First, are the chokes working properly? When the gas pedal is pressed, do the chokes snap shut? If so, it's probably time to pull the carbs. You could have stuck floats (not letting fuel in) or junk in the carbs gumming up the works. You s...

Hard starting
Hi all, With cooler weather upon us my 65 Monza 140 has taken to not wanting to start after it sits for a few days. It turns over fine but acts like its not getting any gas. After doing some research and poking around I think I have an issue with the accelerator pumps. I don't see any gas squirting ...

Re: Leaking from fuel pump
Tightening the pump body seems to have solved the problem. A secondary benefit was it runs much better and doesn't seem starved for fuel, it seemed to be running pretty lean.
