Re: Question about running a turbo motor without exhaust..
If you mean no crossover and up pipe, I doubt there will be much air flow through the YH. Better to use 2 known good carbs to start it and run demo for video. Just my

Re: New owner here- couple questions
Welcome  Do post photos... that’s always a hit here. These troubleshooting steps were posted by someone else so I’ll quote them. Unplug the sender wire. Gauge should read Full or beyond. Ground the sender wire and the gauge should dread empty. If it passes these tests, the sender is bad or the...

The shim is shown as 4.085 on this diagram. The 4spd has a thick washer on the other side but I don’t know about the PG.

Re: Engine Stand, easy question to answer
Think that "adapt & overcome" should be added to the subject of this thread. The ATV/Motorcycle jack and a variation of the Fitch cart keeps engine steady and allows work on the exhaust logs, heads, pushrod tubes, cylinder/piston assemblies etc. My safety protocols call for mult...

Re: Broken Rings, piston and pushrods
I purchased the car a year ago, so this could have been brewing long before I got the car. My bet is that the previous owner was having mucho fun with that 140 while he had it (that's what they are designed for i suppose). It has been slowly getting worse and now you have uncovered the damage. Dave...

Re: Engine mystery
...snipped... .... Monday afternoon I get in the car, hit the starter, and the right side of the motor sounds like a coffee can with a bolt in it. I only ran the car about 45 seconds just to quickly determine the general area of the noise. I'm pretty confident it was in the right side valvetrain. S...

Turbo Tech: 7sec boost run(s) compared - draw through & blow through
7secs of boost .jpg . . The graph is a comparison of a boost vs rpm data capture for two different engines, one a draw through turbo engine and the other a blow through turbo engine. Both of these engines have 140 heads with similar CR, 140 exhaust tubes/logs. The draw through has an F/B turbo and ...

Re: Melting wires, simple question
I'm glad your having a great conversation about coils. Interesting. But my alternator is only charging at between 12 and 12.5 volts And the fan light is on. It must have been doing this all the while since the light has been on since I got a higher output alternator rebuilt for the car. It should b...

Re: gear stick jammed
Hopefully if is something not inside the gearbox. Was this a sudden issue or was it slowly getting hard to shift? Get under the car where the front of the transmission can be reached. Inspect that coupler that connects the shift tube to the transmission input shaft. You might find a broken retainer ...

...snip... Is a OT-20 more for naturally aspirated and a TB-20 more for a turbo? ...snip... Well sir, that's how the Otto cams were designed and intended to be used. OT for non turbo... TB for turbo. These days, there are many workable options for the turbo engine. Currently running an OT-20 with 1...

Re: County98's Learn as I Go Thread
Those glasspack “baffles” should be called exhaust restrictors. Looking at those small holes makes me wonder how much reduction in flow and increase in back pressure they cause. Looks like at least 50% reduction, Is that the intent or is it to reduce loudness? https://www.corvairforum.com/forum/down...

Soon, I hope to get on the highway and see how and if my transmission shifts to 2nd. I would think that if you have been gentle on the gas and gone 40mph, ...
