Re: Center link interchangability

One bar fits all years 60-69. After returning an unbent (which you don't have) center link, you would pay roughly $100 for one stripped, painted, with a new bushing. Your straight core is worth $140. So basically you've learned a $140 lesson on tow strap placement. If only i had seen the crossmembe...

Center link interchangability

So I wasted the center link on my car from a tow strap mishap. Now that my front tires are splayed i reckon it needs a new center link. Clarks page for the center link is goofy, not sure if i'm paying $380 for one or just $240 but i wanted to confirm what years will fit on an EM and possibly whether...

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

My 65 Corsa 140 with 280 isky cam and 4:11 posi 23" tall tires tops out at 126 mph on the radar gun at about 6500 rpm, it will rev to almost 7000,your engine sounds like its only doing about 4000 rpm or less. https://youtu.be/Wyhjomaq-pA That makes me wonder about the aerodynamics of a Corvair...

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

It's possible it's not revving that high. I just bought a taco from vatozone but the install will have wait a while. It's hard to guesstimate rpms when the engine is too loud to think over.

Re: 64 Monza Sedan - Cold Starting and Engine Comp. Heat

As far as the fuel pump goes I'd like to say that with my corvair, it'll go dry after two or three days. I also have a 1974 Plymouth Duster with the same problem. I've simply taken to keeping some starter fluid handy. Sorry if it doesn't help but I just wanted to let you know my experience with carb...

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

I'm in the southeast corner of Pennsylvania and I've heard of the corvair ranch but never checked them out.

My tire size is 175/70/R13. If it makes a difference to the diameter, they are perpetually squashed in. (They look flat but I can assure you they have the right amount of air).

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

That's the plan, i need a new clutch anyway. Are 3.55s common by any chance? can i use any old GM ring and pinion? Does the 3.55 still accelerate decently in your opinion?

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

It's a franken car, it has at least a 63 motor. I'm assuming the previous owner just bought a R&P from Clark's and threw it in. My current tire size is 175/70/R13. Not sure where i can find bigger tires for these rims.

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

While that would be fun and this thing likes to slide on dry roads even, any chance of snow is met with piles of road salt. Anyway i was able to make a video since the snow melted before it even hit the ground. It doesn't sound like it in the vid but this thing was screaming. I'd reckon i hit 70 mph...

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

I can assure you i'm still buzzin' half a dozen. It doesn't lack power it lacks the gears. Unfortunately it's snowing right now so i can't do anything with it.

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

Yes, the pedal is flat on the floor and it sounds like it's about to explode. As soon as i can find a cell phone holder i can make a video. I don't believe this is a horsepower issue, my motorcycle will run out of power in 6th gear and this feels like a different situation.

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

I'm just trying to understand how some people (even Clark's) are claiming the ability to hit 100 with 4.11s when i clearly cannot. While i don't have a tachometer in the car it's blatantly obvious the engine has topped out at about 65-67 mph. If the gearing wasn't the issue and i simply didn't have ...

Re: Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

Believe me, i don't feel comfortable at 60 let alone 100. I would have had to have been coasting in neutral down a mountain to hit 100. Did GM make any 4 speeds with a 4th gear that has a ratio lower than 1:1? Tomorrow i'm going to go out and rotate the tire in 4th to count how many times the crank ...

Anyone with 4.11 gears mind telling me your top speed?

So it's always been a little bit of a chore driving my Corvair outside of town on the sole fact that it'll do like 60 mph tops and the engine is screaming. It has 13 inch wheels and i'm assuming 4.11s in the back. I've been doing some calculations and what doesn't make sense is that Clark's catalog ...

Does the Corvair share a bellhousing with other Chevy engines?

I'm wondering if it shared the bolt pattern with any other Chevy (or even BOP) engines. I've been reading about the various engine swaps people have done and a lot of people mention using an adapter. Does this mean the Corvair has an oddball bolt pattern?
