Re: Metal restoration

Thanks for the help.
I have purchased new back half of the front fenders from Clark's and found some .060 sheet metal at a freind's shop. If my attempts to restore that area of the car are not to ugly, I will post them.

Metal restoration

I do not know the importance of these structures??? I am refreshing this 63 and when I cut off the lower front fenders, I discovered the rust went beyond the outer sheet metal. I dugout all the dead leaves etc. that was in the inner area and caused the rust.my question is, are these areas required f...

Exhaust manifolds 110hp vs 140 hp

The PO of my 63 coupe has had it's engine changed out to a 1965 110 hp. After some time he had a valve sucked in and replaced the heads with 140 hp ones. ( now have 4 carbs) I removed the mufflers and was putting a Clark's ( c1046r) u pipe on to hot adjust the lifters when I found the exhaust manifo...

Re: Engine exhaust tempreture

Thanks wbabst, your reply is what I was hoping for. It is just that the engine is not smooth at 650 rpm ( my miss ) and I have replaced wires, plugs, vacuum hoses, rotor, distributor cap, had carbs rebuilt and adjusted(?) , and replaced after market linkage to original design! My 65 idles is so smoo...

Re: Engine exhaust tempreture

I know that tempreture readings are not "normally" done in diagnosing a 50-year-old automobile, and I am very appreciative of all the help that I have received from this forum!!! :ty: I guess the 37 years of gas turbine experience that I have, working on 10,000 HP to 110 MW gas turbines influenced w...

Engine exhaust tempreture

I have been chasing an idel problem that I thought was a bad primary carb. The carb in question was moved from right side to the left side, then sent to a shop for rework and after reinstalling it on the left side, the idel came down to 600 rpm but I still had a slight miss. I shot tempretures at th...

Re: 140 hp carb linkage

Thanks Brad, I used the link and the best view was on page 14 of 17. It was generic in nature and I still could use a little clarification. Item B in my picture is item 13 in view part number 3867211 left secondary. Item D in my picture is item 12 in view part number 3867205. It should show an adjus...

Re: Can you run thermostat flaps fixed open w/o bellows?

It depends where you live. In Houston the winter temperature averages about 53 degrees. So the engine warms up quickly and you don't need much of a heater (except for the defroster) ? Neither my 63 140 hp nor my 65 110 hp have them and my chokes open in two or three minutes. If you live where it get...

140 hp carb linkage

The PO put adjustable linkage on all four carbs. I wanted, located and purchased a set of original style linkage. It came in today but was not labeled! I believe the adjustable one D is for the left primary but not sure of the others . Can / will someone help and tell me which one goes where??

Re: Idle air vent

Well, I must say, Grant at Wolfe Enterprises stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the park! I called him on Monday and he said ship it to him. On Wednesday evening he called and told me there was soft white material clogging three out of four ports. He cleaned them out and would ship it back to...

Re: Idle air vent

Thank you Brad. :ty: I went back and did just as you suggested and that confirmed my right primary carb is not supporting the engine at idle. The car would not idle until both screws were turned in almost to their max! Then backing out the right carb idle screw, nothing changed. I called the PO and ...

Idle air vent

On one of my carbs, I turned the mixture screw all the way in while the car was idling and it made NO difference to the rpm. I was told, by a carburetor rebuild company, that the idle air vent chamber must be blocked. He said it may clear up with carb cleaner or try to get a small wire thru it. I tr...
