Which is exactly why I went back to mechinal fuel pump and will be removing my Mallory box that I'm 99% sure is causing pinging - but that's a story for another thread.

Re: Wheels/Rims for 63 Corvair
I've decided I want to run my grandfather's old 66 impala ss hubcaps but I need 14" steelies to do so. Nissan steel wheels fit, but the hub cap does not. It's the way the rim is designed. So, any ideas where to get a 14" 4 lug that will accept a classic style hubcap? Sent from my LG-H931 u...

Re: Airtex electric fuel pump woe.
I am always amazed how many Corvair owners are quick to blame the mechanical fuel pump on their Corvair for a fuel delivery failure. They often quickly dump the original pump and replace it with a more-expensive and more-complex electric fuel pump system, assuming that the electric pump (an electro...

Re: Just curious....
To answer your question....yes, you can. Anyone that says you can't is wrong. Can you install a V-8 in a Corvair? Yes. Can you install an entire Honda chassis including A/C engine, driveline, interior, etc in a '66 Corvair convertible? Yes you can....I saw the results. Turning a carbed Corvair moto...

Airtex electric fuel pump woe.
I have one of those airtex electric pumps for the better part of two years. I hear the pump coming on but it seems like it isn't pumping. Car runs, drives, chokes shuts off and then repeats. I got home from my 30 mile commute but it was not easy. Anyone experience the failure of these pumps? Do they...

Re: Petronix Flame-Thrower
In my 1961 80hp Ive been using a 1.5 ohm with points for about 2 years and just this winter installed a Mallory Hyfire which is triggered by the points with the same 1.5ohm flamethrower and it's been great. No issues at all, knock wood.

Re: Gear box/transmission
Yes that is exactly what it is, I also have an electric element I use once I get it up to temperature so I don't have to keep turning the turkey fryer dial. My plan is to use the aircraft simple green in it to clean the heads. Let me know how that works. I like this.... A lot! Sent from my LG-H931 ...

Re: Gear box/transmission
The parts for 3-4 speed differentials interchange if both are 61-64. Just the outer case is different for 64 provision for the spring perch in the car. The ONLY difference is the input shaft seal is different for 64 (Larger Shaft in transmission that passes through) and possibly the speedo gear if ...

Re: Question regarding engine differences for EM.
Ok. I was basically inquiring what the difference was between my stock 80hp and the 98 that I have on a stand. As I said I was originally only going to use the heads but if I follow what you posted I think that will yield me a whopping 4hp increase, but again I would be doing that for the cooling c...

Re: Question regarding engine differences for EM.
:dontknow: What two engines? The only engine horsepower rating associated with the cylinder head casting number 3795960 you listed was 98 hp in 1961. The 1961 Corvair GM Heritage Center Specifications indicate only two hp ratings in 1961 — the 80 hp Turbo-Air and the 98 hp Super Turbo-Air. Those tw...

Question regarding engine differences for EM.
I just picked up a 98hp automatic engine with the head stamping of 3795960. I'm finding a lot of mixed information. I am under the impression that these are 98/102 heads and am wondering what else is specifically different between this engine and the standard 80hp. Camshaft? Reason I ask is that my ...

Re: The overall reliability of the Corvair drivetrain
When I was in college I bought my first car, a 1956 Buick Super Sedan. I then sold my VW my dad had given me and bought a 51 Plymouth Cranbrook Club Coupe. From that point on the newest car I have bought for my self is a 1965 Lincoln Continental. In between has been cars from the 50's and early 60'...

Re: The overall reliability of the Corvair drivetrain
Why ditch the points? Ignition points are 1960s (and earlier) technology. They are a simple contact switch that began to wear out the day they are placed in service. As they wear, the dwell angle changes and the ignition timing changes. The high electrical current that passes through the ignition c...
