Good bye and Thanks

I know its not an introduction. Actually, its the opposite.

I just found out my Corvair is going to need a complete engine rebuild, something I cannot afford.

So I must say good-bye.

Thank you to all who have helped me through out the years.

I just wish things could have worked out better.

Re: Replaced carbs but now a new problem

Since everything I did still resulted in the same problem, I took it to Jeff at California Corvair's. Unfortunately, the engine is blown with zero compression in two of the cylinders. So I'm selling it to him to use whatever parts he can use. This will probably be my last post since I'll be out of t...

Re: Replaced carbs but now a new problem

I'm in Highland Park, between Glendale and Pasadena. I've rebuilt carbs before without any problems using Clarks deluxe kit (even had one of the carbs working without the power enrichment needle without knowing it) and Bob Helt's book "How to Identify and Rebuild Corvair Rochester Carburetors&q...

Re: Replaced carbs but now a new problem

So I went back, started her up and tried again. According to my dwell meter, she's at 1700 RPM at idle. According to the manual, with factory settings, she should be around 500 - 850 range and around 1100 RPM at high idle. The timing is set at 12. So why is she at 1700 RPM? And how do I get her lowe...

Re: Replaced carbs but now a new problem

I think that's what I'm always forgetting. No matter how many times I've tuned her up, its always when I put her into gear I have problems.

I need to start remembering to set the idle speed in drive. Maybe I should write it down.

Re: Replaced carbs but now a new problem

So thinking that maybe one of the carbs is not working right (or both for that matter), I switched them. The L is now on the R and vice versa. Still having the same problem. The engine shuts off when it goes in gear. Since this is my daily driver, I'm fighting time to get her fixed. Already took one...

Re: Replaced carbs but now a new problem

Rebuilt them myself. I don't think they're the problem. Once I put them on, the car was running a lot better than with the other pair. I just can't get the idle to right spot, if not a little high. It seems like its running correct, but the car shuts of when in gear. I tried moving the idle speed sc...

Replaced carbs but now a new problem

My LH carb died on me and the car was only running no one carb. I replaced both carbs with rebuilt ones and its running, just not fine. When I replaced the carbs, I found the LH carb did not have the vacuum plug and the RH carb was missing the power enrichment needle. Not sure how the car was runnin...

Re: Front Speaker Install

Here's an update on the speaker install. I used the bracket that was supplied with the speakers. The measurements were almost the same as the old speaker with the original mount. The new mount just needed to be trimmed a little from the back so the screw would fit and line up with the bottom speaker...

Re-aligning the steering wheel, anyone know how?

The steering wheel on my Monza is out of alignment and I'm not sure how to fix it. I can't find anything in the manuals. It's twelve o'clock is about one o'clock. The car handles and steers fine, its just the steering wheel is off.

:goodpost:
I am getting ready to do this (just waiting for my order to arrive). Been looking through the assembly manual but somehow your instructions seem a lot easier.

Re: Seat Heaters

I have one I bought for $10 at a discount store. Nothing fancy, just a pad that sits on top of the seat and back and plugs into the cigarette lighter. Keeps me warm and toasty on those cold mornings.

Re: Front Speaker Install

The back of the speakers look just like yours (they're Kenwoods). The bracket is an "L" shape about three inches high. In the up position, it hits the top of the dash. In the down position, the radio is in the way. I like your setup though. I may have to try something like it. Either that ...

Front Speaker Install

I just received my new speakers from Clark's. http://www.corvair.com/photo-index/C10041.jpg But I'm having a devil of time putting them in. The bracket supplied is too long and the original bracket makes the speakers too short. They just sort of float below the speaker grill. Does anyone have any ex...

Re: Newbee question

Buy the tool. I got mine from Clark's to replace a bent tube. Replaced all of the tubes (since I was in there) and the tool made it so much easier. The tubes slide right out with a little tapping from a hammer and you don't have to worry about damaging them.
