Re: Fuel
Yes, the small can to the right of the pump is a filter. You really didn't complete your thought. 3 miles later, what happened? Engine died? Wouldn't restart? You checked for gas in the carbs and there wasn't any? More info please.

Re: 67 Won't Idle
I wonder if this is a car you've been driving regularly or if it is a car you are 'bring back to life'? Because this sounds to me like you've got a combination of old gas and/or junk in the fuel tank, which has now infected your rebuilt carbs. The distributor curve etc doesn't account for the poor i...

Re: Temp light on at idle
In one of your late posts you said you would put your old switch in and see what happens. Well I thought your new switch was telling you something the old switch was not. Now the old switch that didn't send a signal & turn the light on seems to be the culprit that caused you some big problems. ...

Re: Temp light on at idle
Yes. Remember that the light comes on for both low oil pressure and high engine temperature. At idle, low oil pressure is more likely. The way to be sure is to run it until the light comes on, and unplug the oil pressure switch to see if the light goes out. Check your oil level, and while you have t...

Re: Removing heli-coil/time serts ?
I am in the 'if it works, leave it alone' group. If you're catching enough threads that you can torque the plug correctly, and you have the correct penetration into the cylinder, I'd call it a win and move on.

It will really help to know where you are located... I'm thinking you transposed two numbers on the head casting. If it is 6256721 then they are from a 1960. I don't have anything that matches the number you gave. Is there perhaps another letter after the "Z" on the engine stamp? If there ...

Re: 1964 four door automatic project by remote
Ecklund, Some people do upgrade the brakes on Corvairs. Folks who have been building and restoring Corvairs for decades will tell you that in most every circumstance (except racing), the stock brakes are fine. I don't think an upgrade to discs, for example, is worth the effort. Having said that, the...
I thought solid 20 psi with a cordless drill motor was pretty good. In any case going from 20 on the bench to zero is a big jump. Measuring with the gauge that is tied into the pressure switch. My indicator light also came on.
This makes me wonder: Is the oil pressure gauge electri...

1966 500 with NO OPTIONS!
I've been looking at a 66 500 sport sedan, and asked the seller to send me the body tag. Here it is: IMG_20170304_080950645.jpg White exterior, red interior, 3 speed, 95 hp, and NO options. Not sure I've ever seen one before. Just thought I'd share. The price seems reasonable, but until you se...

Re: Memoirs of a Monza
My list shows an RD as a 1965 110 hp. The air outlet doors work on a thermostatically controlled bellows. They should be closed until the engine heats up, then open to allow more air flow. One that's open all the time has let the magic smoke out (well, into) the bellows. Easily replaced. You will wa...

Re: Memoirs of a Monza
Joe, If the temp/press light does not come on when the key is on and the engine not running, try this simple test: remove the wire from the oil pressure switch and ground it. See if the light comes on in the dash. If it does, your problem is the switch. If it does not, the problem is either the bulb...
