Re: Just Call Me Gramps

Happy Birthday Phil. Just went through the same last month. I would say I'm getting better, but really I'm just getting older. LOL

Mecum at Kissimmee

Not as many Corvairs this year, but I see where 9 out of the 10 Corvairs sold. That's 10 as of today. May be more I haven't gone through all of the future lots. Most were early models (8) and 2 of them brought $40,000 plus. Crazy.

Re: Piston Ring Gap Position

They were cast iron by Hastings. Don't have the instructions anymore but I want to say the oil ring was in the 6:00 position.

Re: Piston Ring Gap Position

Just put new rings in my car this week. The instruction sheet had me put one ring gap at about 10:00 with the top of the piston being 12:00 and the second gap was at two o'clock, to me that is more like 90 degrees apart.

I enjoy all of Jay's videos but especially liked this one. Thought the car looked very nice, not perfect but nice. I appreciate he always gives our hobby good publicity.

Re: County98's Learn as I Go Thread

My '66 140 had what looked like the original heater hoses so while in quarantine I replaced them all. After installation I took a short drive and checked everything once back in the garage. The passenger side hose had sagged and was rubbing on the transaxle. I had to hang it higher so there would be...

I really like the look. I think it turned really nice. I'm thinking about fabricating a console and may incorporate some of your ideas.

Re: ebay

Seeing quite a bit of that, and not just on E-bay. I'm surprised at the number of 4 cylinder 'vairs out there.

Re: Please ID this part, #2

A wise man told me it would be best to add 4-5 new wires. I installed 3 and then found out I needed more. So now I have run a total of 5 new wires from the back to the front. I zip tied them to the original harness and was able to attach to the harness for at least 90% of the way. I've crimped plug ...

Re: Please ID this part, #2

So the thermistor wire does not run to the wiring harness at the dash? Do you have any pictures that show how it attaches to the starter? I have a Corsa dash in a '66 Monza with a 140. and I'm trying to figure out some of the various gauges. I would still need to run a wire to the gauge itself would...

Re: County98's Learn as I Go Thread

Shane,
It's looking good. I'm kind of in the same boat. Just working on little things when I can. Hopefully this spring I can get down to one of the club members shop and do some underneath work. He has a couple of lifts. Keep it up.
