Re: '64 convertible top material separation
So from my experimentation on this subject I'm at a loss as to what I would do in a similar circumstance. From what I know of the material from cutting and gluing pieces to hold my separated window apart is that it is two layers. The top vinyl layer is adhered onto the cloth-like inner layer, but to...

Re: The 64 convertable, chapter 2: top repair
I forgot about this post. Well, I was not able to fully "patch" the curtain area, and since I am in the middle of doing lots of body work, I am not worrying about getting the top fully perfect at the moment. Here is what I did instead, and I hope it helps give others some ideas as to what ...

Re: fitment of rear quarter patch
So to round out this thread, here is my last update for the season since things are starting to get cold and working in my garage is less than ideal. To fill the gap in the wheel well and door I welded nails along the edges, since I couldn't find suitable rod stock in an appropriate diameter that wa...

Re: fitment of rear quarter patch
Yeah Ted, I'll do the patch panel for the driver side BELOW the beltline, and also not cut around the door gap, but just go up to it. I debated myself back and forth on whether to go above or below the body line. I was worried that if I go below the body line it will warp easier, whereas the folded ...

Re: fitment of rear quarter patch
So I welded the panel on the other day and here are the results below. A little bit more welding and grinding in the wheel arch area is needed still. After that is complete I need to do the body filler. Many people on the FB body group prefer to spray epoxy primer first, then fill, then spray again ...

Re: fitment of rear quarter patch
So it has been some time since my last post. I was busy with other things, but here is my progress so far. I'm done fabbing the metal, I put down some rust encapsulator and sanded the loose areas off (Permatex type, not POR15). Sprayed the inside of the panel and the inside of the fender area with e...

Re: New New Member!
That looks like a pretty good car all in all and enough of a project to make it your own! The rust and filler in the back will certainly keep you busy but I did find much satisfaction working those contours on mine.

Re: fitment of rear quarter patch
So as a helpful guide for anyone else attempting this repair, I want to finish this thread to completion. So the other part of my repair entails the inner fender lip as well. Because there was a big dent across the side of the car, the inner lip was also bent. I fabricated the arch out of two pieces...

Re: fitment of rear quarter patch
OK I think I understand the approach you used. Your way may have fewer side effects than what I was considering and better control of the panel shape. So you clamped the lower pinchweld to hold it in place and then worked the corner 90* inward toward the pinchweld to pull the lower rocker portion of...

Re: Ill fitting engine fuel line.
I also bought those lines and they did require a little bit of manipulating on my part as well. Bent up from the shroud and some bending at the right side carb as well like you are doing. I had issues with leaking at the flared fittings on both ends and no amount of tightening would help. I bought a...

fitment of rear quarter patch
Hi everyone. I'm finally attacking the rear quarters on my 64 convertible. I bought the quarter patches from Clarks. Here is my problem: For starters the quarter is about a full 1/4" short of the panel seam below the door. I am debating on just really using a lot of seam sealer and goobing the ...

Re: Carb tuning/building tricks from old timers?
I just went through an issue where I eventually determined I had a bad accelerator pump plunger. I have a stumble on throttle acceleration, but was otherwise OK if you were gentle on giving throttle. When looking at the carbs running on the car, I was only getting a squirt out of one side. I took th...

Carb tuning/building tricks from old timers?
Hi everyone. I want to start a thread where any of those more experienced in the carb systems may share some old school tricks to pass along for ways of setting up and tuning carbs. For example, one trick I was taught was after setting the float, you can double check where the needle will actually s...

Re: 67 Fuel line fixed!! but still no gas to carbs?? please help
So I was reading this post and so far I see that we have gas up to the fuel pump and he says it can be pulled/syphoned up to that point, but we have no gas getting to the carb(s)? I guess he hasn't replied back yet as to testing if the pump works by disconnecting the fuel lines at the carb and worki...

Badge engineering on a global scale
I was thinking about this the other day so I will share my opinions. I miss the older days when cars from different countries were actually different. What I mean is that prior to auto manufacturers becoming global corporations, cars from respective countries were truly unique from each other. While...
