Re: Electric Corvair ---
A little ancient history. I remember reading about the Great Transcontinental Car Race challenge between MIT and Caltech in 1968 in Road & Track. Caltech had a VW bus and GM gave MIT a LM Corvair. A search found not much out there on the web except the SAE tech paper (but they want $37 for a cop...

yellow can Easy Off oven cleaner gets the old anodizing off, then you can clean and prep for paint. Suggest you experiment on a small area first. Good discussion on the H.A.M.B. here https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/thr ... er.687718/ .

Re: alignment specs with 15 inch tires/wheels
To set toe for my Corvair and my F-250, I made trammel pins with thumbscrews to fit a cheap 6ft ruler from Lowe's https://i.imgur.com/5cccmwDm.jpg . This gets me within a sixteenth, good enough to drive it to alignment shop. I am a fan of toe out, not toe in. I want that inner tire working harder in...

Re: Question about using a tow bar
sorry if I missed this detail; is it a manual transmission car? But manual or PG, I agree with Mr. Hand, better to have it trucked. If you were going 12 miles, I would say go for it. If going 120 miles here in Flatland, mostly on the interstate, ok maybe. 1200 CA to CO? Get some hauler quotes.

Re: Does Anyone Care About Racing?
Oh heck yes I would like to see more from racers, too. My interest would be mostly DIY techie stuff, not so much driving experience stuff. Just retired, starting to fix all my broken toys, hope to have a big shop behind the house by this time next year. Might not ever road race again in attempt to w...

Re: Drop-Spindles?
if you type exactly that error message into a search engine, you will find other forums where users had this problem and may find a solution. I am not saying their solution is guaranteed to fix your problem but maybe it would help a Corvair forum admin help you debug this. For example, in another fo...

Re: Bucket Seat Replacement
My interior preference is an older look, like something you would find back in the day. My old race car has a 60s bucket race seat, I would not want that in a daily driver. My Vair is not air conditioned and I live in Florida, so although I like the leatherish look and feel I probably should get ven...

somebody should start an Ebay competitor that only allows NOS automotive items: sort of like RockAuto with individual sellers.

Re: Control Rod Nut - Type???
I apparently double ordered these nuts, have spares I will never use if dixon5553 needs them. On my pc, this thread suddenly turns into an alternator discussion for a few posts, then goes back to control rod nuts. Not sure if my reply will show up in line so I sent him a pm.

Re: A Tale of Woe..
when mine died, I pushed if off into a parking lot, pulled off the air cleaner, wiggled the throttle rod a few times and saw no gas squirting into the carbs. I was sure the fuel was good, had a new fuel pump...but something had made the pump run dry. Got a ride to meet up with my friends for breakfa...

Re: '70 Corvair SWB GT
Dear GM, we know you are messing around with a future electric Corvette. Dont do it, leave it as a premiere GT with IC engine. As the other mfgs abandon IC engine cars, you will be at the top of that mountain. Instead, take the concept cars based loosely on the Corvair theme shown here and make this...

when your wife finds a pair of torn pantyhose in the glove compartment, explain that all Corvair owners keep them for use as an emergency fan belt repair fix. Yeah, that should do it.

the one thing I remind people is to read the label befory you buy some oil just because its on sale. Lets say you bought some of your favorite oil last year. Next year you see its on sale at Walmart so you decide to stock up. Make sure you read the label because the company that owns the trademark n...

wow. I am the eastern USA rep for the Elf/Hornet Register and there are a few details in your post I didnt know, very interesting. Designed in the 50s, first models 1959, early Minis were marketed as the new Austin Seven and the Morris Mini Minor to the common man. Like GM and Ford, BMC owned other ...

Re: New corvair owner, well maybe
Trying to keep a Corvair going in the U.K. is probably like keeping an old Riley going in the U.S., but I've seen old Riley's here.
I see an old RIley every day while I work on my Corvair. My MkIII Riley Elf is running fine, the Corvair is all in pieces.
