Re: OPGI Quick Steering arms
I shall continue to use Clarke's as their customer service is excellent and they have always had what I needed in stock. But yes, shipping is expensive and when you live in the UK it's eye-watering as we also have to pay her majesty's customs a hefty whack too. Maybe Brexit will open trading with th...

Re: 1963 Corvair Monza 900 Convertible
Thanks for the history lesson. I should have known that driving on the left side did not just "happen" randomly. I suppose that driving on the left side also allowed the continuation of jousting, while wielding your lance with the right hand? What do you do with your sword when driving a ...

Re: Re: 1963 Corvair Monza 900 Convertible
Well, I think getting the law changed is a little more tricky here Brad, we would need to petition our local MP and government bodies like DVLA (equivalent to your DMV). I can't see it changing. As for the 51st state? With the way Brexit is going at present, who knows, lol? But we'll never change th...

Re: Re: 1963 Corvair Monza 900 Convertible
You guys have it so lucky over there. Here, in the UK, if you take your driving test in an auto, then that's all you're allowed to drive unless you re-take your test with a stick shift (or 'manual' as we call them here). So most here learn in a stick-shift so as to not be limited in choice of car.

That's it TT. Yes, it wouldn't physically fit in the hole until that flange was bent upwards.

Re: 1965 Monza Convertible 140 suspension/steering
Look at the tank where the small pipe exits and you'll see that the metal flange has been bent upwards, turned through 90 degrees. When installing the tank this will be rear-most, towards the cabin.

Re: 1965 Monza Convertible 140 suspension/steering
Odd I have never hammered any recess into any new tank and I have done a number with no issue. The straps and bolts Clark's supplies are not that great (but will work (seems like I had to thread J-bolts a little farther than supplied for them to get tight when using repro straps and bolts) and I wi...

Re: 1965 Monza Convertible 140 suspension/steering
When you fit the new tank, you will need to hammer a swage line into the tank to make it fit (use old tank as example). Also forget about the tank retaining straps that is included in the kit as it doesn't fit; keep your old one as it will do a better job. Just two things I learnt from installing th...

Re: 65 Monza 110 PG Vert in Blighty
Ok, finally bit the bullet and paid a mechanic friend to diagnose the fault. Turns out valve train failure, with a rocker cover removed we could turn the engine over but there was no valve movement so I guess I’m looking at a broken cam and/or gear. Next job to remove the oil pan and have a further ...

Re: 65 Monza 110 PG Vert in Blighty
Thanks Brad, things to check there. We did think of an air block but we’d suck the fuel through the pipes to the carbs (lovely...) so know we had no air block. Think we’ll have to check flow rate then. Fuel being squirted into the carbs was also observed. I do have another replacement fuel pump but ...

Re: 65 Monza 110 PG Vert in Blighty
Well, it's been almost two years since my Vair was last on the road. So...I had the lads round this weekend to crack on with it. It previously had a new fuel tank which albeit wasn't the problem it was needed due to rust etc and the main hose which, once removed, seemed perilously close to snapping ...

Re: Repo Speed-O Drive Grease Cap Problems
I replaced my speedo cable last year and used Clark's Improved Repro cable which is obviously inner and outer combined. It was hassle free and no need to cut a replacement inner cable to length. Had a lot of speedo wobble at first but after a couple of miles it settled down. Costs a bit more but les...

Re: UK agreed value Insurance
I would advise considering Haggerty insurance at your next renewal. Not only did they come up considerably cheaper than Footman James at renewal but I managed to add another road going car and two projects...for less than the renewal price from FJ for the Corvair alone. I cannot remember the agreed ...
