Re: Corvair Prices

'69 is the only year Corvair I have not owned in the last 34 years and I am partial to it because it is the year I was born. I may just chuck the whole "gotta have a '69" idea in the bin and go with a lovely '67 sedan instead. The last year for the four door plus they have to cost much les...

Corvair Prices

Hello All, I have been away from the Forum for about four years. I was focusing on work, family and home restoration. So I am in the market for my "final" Corvair, hopefully a '69 of some sort and in looking at prices, did I miss something? Seems like a nice coupe of convertible is going f...

Re: 140 Motor Progress

Joe- The Corvair engine won't bite so don't be apprehensive about rebuilding it. There are lots of good books on the subject including "Performance Corvairs", "Corvair Secrets" and "The Classic Corvair" all available through Clarks. The shop manual for your year is inva...

Re: 1966 Corvair and Chevy II Nova SS order form

I took that order form to my local Chevy dealer and told the salesman I would like to order the Corsa 180 CT AND the Nova with the 327/4spd and was willing to pay cash. Still have not heard back from him...

Re: LM vs. EM Debate.

Late models take the cake on technical advancements but earlies are soooo much more fun to drive and have that "classic" Chevy look that everybody seems to like. Late models had Don Yenko but earlies had John Fitch, Sterling Moss AND Steve McQueen so the comparison is something like asking...

Re: New member from Cleveland

Hopefully the Browns have a better season this year! Welcome to the family Sean, it's cool that you have the last year for the four door Corvair. I have seen some amazing sedans over the last 30 years and am glad people want to save them as opposed to guys with Fords, Chevy's and Mopar that cut them...

Re: E15 fuel

Politicians were emailed and letters were sent weeks ago, hopefully they rethink the E15 thing. I drive one of my classics to work (I have 4) at least one day per week as I have nothing newer than a '66 Monza in my garage so gas is not sitting in the tank for long periods of time. I had a Qjet carb ...

Re: E15 fuel

I will check this out, thanks so much! We have a small airport here in Marion, IN that says they will sell me aviation fuel. I am sure the Spyder would LOVE it but my wallet will not. Seems like it goes about $5 a gallon or so.

E15 fuel

Hello Corvair Fans! I recently heard on the news that our state legislature in Indiana is looking very hard at mandating E15 fuel in the very near future. While I have my personal opinions on this, the Corvair forum in not the place for cussing and hollering so I will keep it sane. Can anyone out th...

I was thinking the same thing, especially after looking at Ebay, Hemmings, etc and seeing all the available rust free convertibles out there! Thanks Nicad!

Rust rust rust!

Ok Corvair folks. I have a '64 Monza CT I have been driving for a few years but have to make a decision as to whether to keep it or part it out due to the R word. The floors are gone, the doglegs are gone and 6-8" of the right rear subframe is brittle. The rockers seem solid but the doors have ...

Re: Best Fuel Injection system

Clarks has the very best and easiest set-up. I have also used the Atomic EFI set up on a 4 barrel center mount 140. Awesome, easy to install but getting expensive these days. I think you will love the conversion if/when you decide to do it! Carbs are great but with the junk gasoline we use these day...

Re: 110 hp or 140 hp?

Corvair Ranch in Gettysburg, PA (717)-624-2805 can set you up with a good "kit" per your needs. I would stick with the 110 engine as the 140 tends to drop valve seats using todays garbage gasoline unless you want to do extensive and expensive work to the heads to install hardened valve sea...

Re: Engine Runs just OK?

You may try that although the major sources of vacuum leaks would be on either head where the crossover enters, the rubber hose between the turbo and intake, the gasket between the carb and turbo, the vacuum line from the right head to the pressure retard or the actual pressure retard unit on the di...

Re: Engine Runs just OK?

As the turbo is an integral part of the induction system, any vacuum leak would be suspect. An easy diagnosis is to take a can of gumout or carb cleaner and spray it around any suspected intake vacuum leak while the engine is running. If you notice the engine immediately speed up, you've found your ...

Re: Engine Runs just OK?

Sounds like it may a vacuum problem? Did you replace the two rubberr hoses that exit the carb base and connect to the vacuum tube? What about the vacuum hose from the right carb to the distributor, maybe it is brittle or too large diameter. Lastly, maybe a cracked bakelite gasket at the carb base? I...
