Re: Melting wires, simple question

Ok. I'm pretty sure we'll be able to figure things out but in terms of wires for includingvmy alternator-. It looks like I will need 10 gauge and a 14 gauge, is this correct? And all I will need to know are the colors, and I can pick them up from my local electrical store.

Re: Melting wires, simple question

So, since I am getting my wire harness today I drove the car this weekend. It did well and the wires didn't get hot. By the way,it's not the coil, I just mentioned the coil because I was asked about modifications. The coil was part of the ignition upgrade. In any event, I think it may be the heater ...

Re: Melting wires, simple question

So it's the wires involved with the alternator that are fried. The problem is I ordered the 64 harness and it originally had a generator. Will it have these wires?

Re: Melting wires, simple question

I ment to send pictures but I forgot to get them. It's quite a sight. It appears it might be one wire but I'll get you guys some pics.
I have a multi meter, but like with so many guys it's intimidating. So it's not my strong suit. But I will persevere and trace down the problem.

Re: Melting wires, simple question

It's a stinger distributor ignition, the coil has zero ohms of resistance and the resistor wire has been bypassed. That's it for modifications. But that's what I thought it would be a 64 wiring harness.

Melting wires, simple question

I have a 1964 Monza with a 1968 140hp engine with a simple electronic ignition. The wires are severely melting or have melted, i.e. the wiring harness got hot, there's a short, and the insulation is melting. In fact they are still getting hot. I still have ro trace down the problem. My question is d...

Re: Air vent mounting vent issue solved by brilliant friend

Pretty cool huh? Once the wood was in place I wouldn't call it a breeze but it went in easier than screwing with the clips on a broken piece of plastic. I would have never thought of this. We thought about gluing the wood in but shiming it tight was the way to go, better, for us anyway. If you have ...

Re: Air vent mounting vent issue solved by brilliant friend

He fashioned a piece of scrap wood to fit perfectly.
He even shimmed it in there and drilled a pilot hole for the screw. But even if he didn't drill it the wood wouldn't have any where to go if it would split.

Air vent mounting vent issue solved by brilliant friend

:whoa: Let me know if I'm just dum but the side vents in my 64 Monza are a pain in the arse. All around, getting them out and putting them in and rebuilding the flaps etc etc. I got some good replacement ones from a local cirvair guy but even those weren't perfect. THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE THE PLAST...

Re: 64 Monza steering gear ID and questions

The rebuild was actually strait forward and fun. So the only real challenge was pressing the bushings and the races in. But with persistence they all went in and were seated.
Just follow the books instructions for setting the lash. It's a new gear!
