:whoa: Let me know if I'm just dum but the side vents in my 64 Monza are a pain in the arse. All around, getting them out and putting them in and rebuilding the flaps etc etc. I got some good replacement ones from a local cirvair guy but even those weren't perfect. THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE THE PLAST...

The rebuild was actually strait forward and fun. So the only real challenge was pressing the bushings and the races in. But with persistence they all went in and were seated.
Just follow the books instructions for setting the lash. It's a new gear!

Alright. She's rebuilt and in.
It's beautiful!
It works wonderfully, with no play.
We made our own cornmeal grease!!!@@!!!

The rebuild kit did not come but we decided to pull the one in my car apart.
You can see the profound wear in my gear.

Thanks so much for your help, Joel. There are no pits in the worm gear. Maybe it's the photo, there is a little discoloration but it's as smooth as can be. And also, if the block were up in that area anyway wouldn't it be extreme steering situations? And it really doesn't matter, the sgaft won't be ...

I did not end up sand blasting it but a friend of mine said he could powdercoat it and man did he!

So is the lash set by using the "shim" on the adjustment screw? Because the 65 I took apart didn't have that shim.

Ok, so here's the plan now; I'm going to call my sandblasted guy off the box. I'll do a little work to it and paint it my self. Black and orange? Blue, orange? In any event. I think everything looks good in this 65 so I'll throw the kit at it and the shaft and worm in my car. Let's pray it's good. A...

Here are some cleaned parts. I think a little more with the wire wheel and I can paint it. I don't think I need sand blasting.
