Re: Shakes and shutters at deceleration

Thanks for the info. I did find the Mobil one synthetic 75w90LS which claims to be for hypoid gears. But I do think this reverse gear is missing teeth. I have more trasmissions and need to learn more about how they work anyway. The person that sold this tranny said it looked rebuilt... yet it had a ...

Re: Shakes and shutters at deceleration

Well, I'm getting good at removing the powertrain. It took a weekend, and I was able to remove the clutch and have the flywheel and pressure plate resurfaced. No more shakes or shutters, except in reverse. :banghead: I guess this tranny needs some attention. I hope to get away with just using forwar...

Re: Shakes and shutters at deceleration

Thanks Brad, the redline info is new news and I appreciate it. I was using MT-90 for the last year and hope it isn't doing damage. The flywheel side of the disk is to the flywheel. I took it for a drive last night and in a downshift, had a big boom and thought I lost the tranny out the bottom. It st...

Shakes and shutters at deceleration

I just replaced the bellhousing seals and mated up a different 4-speed tranny and diff with a fresh pilot bushing and throw-out bearing, refabbed clutch disk, and filled it with Redline MT-90 Gl-4 gear oil. No more leaks, but I am getting a shaking when I let off the gas from acceleration or downshi...

Re: Carpet installation

I leave the seat belt bolts in the holes and after I set the carpet, I cut the bolts out.

Diff question

I have a 3:89 connected to the 4-speed and I sit at 3100 rpm at 65mph. Would the 3:55 give me more or less speed at that same RPM?

Thanks!!! :not worthy:

Re: 63 monza build

Looks good. Yes stretch it to the pinch weld, glue it to both sides of the weld. Then trim the excess and use windlace to cover it. I bought 20' of windlace on ebay for a Mustang, it was cheaper than clark's and looks perfect. You need nearly 10' per side.

Welcome!! I picked up a '63 'vert in Long beach and have been restoring a '63 Spyder. The bug is contagious.

Re: Corvair Lakewood 61 - NL

Looks great Raf! Be sure that locking fuel cap is vented! I put one on that didn't breathe and fuel pressure sky-rocketed because of the built up pressure in the tank. I had gas coming out of both carbs like a fountain.

Re: Leg Room

I'm 6'4" and had to make them to feel comfortable. It doesn't stress the mounts any more than only using a seat, but some of the front floor will be exposed. I added a rectangle of carpet under the seat to tidy it up.

Re: Aftermarket Cylinder Head Temp Gauges

I know it's not the prettiest, but I made one for less than $20 that is digital and goes to 1200 degrees. It doesn't go with the interior aesthetic, so I keep it in the engine compartment for a monitor of sort. I can make more if anyone is interested. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e77/pinkbilly/...

Re: RecessBilly's Worklog '63 Spyder project

Are you getting the Lakewood out of the Merlin area? No, from Redding area. I have been enjoying this thing so much, and haven't updated in a bit. I finally sewed up the visors today. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e77/pinkbilly/Snapbucket/Corvair%20Spyder/IMG_20161117_083022278_zpsr4dohiue.jpg ...

Re: Seat foam

Nice work! I'm a Bill too, and have found a lot of "Corvair Bill"s in my short history with Corvairs. I sew too, and enjoyed doing my own seats as well... I used the old cotton and need to remove and replace with foam soon, but it looks good. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e77/pinkbilly...

Re: RecessBilly's Worklog '63 Spyder project

^So much good stuff! and that was just the frunk. Inside the car I got a front bumper, '63 turbo heads with thermistor, a turbo with both downpipes, a carter YH carb, a manual choke carb, two sets of cylinders, window trim and handles, visors, a starter, a clutch disk/pressure plate, new valves and ...
