Re: Initial Shock Setting Recommendation for Koni's on an EM

Well the weather in Chicago was nice enough today for me to take the 64 out for a drive. I will say this is one of the best investments I’ve made to this car. The ride quality is sublime and the handling is amazing.

I am very impressed with how much better the Konis are over the gas shocks I had ...

Re: Finally! New wheels on the 63 Vert.

@Gasman63 I have not had any issues with the two washers. Once installed the hub centric rings it has been fantastic. That was back in 2008 and still smooth as glass, no vibrations at all.

Re: Initial Shock Setting Recommendation for Koni's on an EM

I installed the rear shocks tonight. I went with 3/4 turn from full soft. I figured I go a little softer than Daniels LM coupe. I won’t get to the fronts until this weekend. I’ll set them up at 1/4 turn from full soft. Then I just sit impatiently for winter to end and/or the roads to clear up and ...

Initial Shock Setting Recommendation for Koni's on an EM

Good afternoon,

I purchased the Koni shocks from Clark’s for my 64.

From the instructions:
Full counterclockwise if full soft
Full clockwise is full firm
The instructions state there is 2 1/4 turns for adjustment

I am looking for more handling vs comfort. I figured I would start at the middle of ...

Re: Final (Hopefully) Wheel Questions

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas Eve.

Jerry reached out to me and I figured I would post the note to share on how I made the Nissan / Datsun 15X6 rims, called Swastika Rims from a Datsun 280 ZX Turbo. Yes this is the name. The wheels 14.5 pounds each and have a 4” backspace.

These wheels require ...

I cannot find an & on the crank. Here are all the numbers I found:

8409
GMT
14A

Here are some pictures of the markings.

I also started cleaning the heads. So far the combustion chambers are clean. The valve pockets have quite a bit of build up.

Re: Early Corvair Shock Absorber

I am resurrecting an older thread. I am looking to replace the shocks on my 64. I installed the KYB brand from Clark’s when I rebuilt the suspension and am looking for a better control. I see Clark’s has the Koni adjustable but show the same part number for front and rear.

I was reviewing the data ...

Re: It was all so innocent – now a 180 Rebuild

I managed to spend a little time over the holidays working on the motor. I was able to get the valves out of the head and they all look to be in decent shape given the age of the motor. The guides are not worn, no bad seats, just lots of carbon deposits.

Now the clean up begins so I can inspect ...

I was thinking a picture of the crank, this is the crankcase number. T0223RN.

Re: It was all so innocent – now a 180 Rebuild

At first glance it appears that Rod Number Three has a Rod Cap marked Number Five.
When looking closer, it appears that they might both be marked the same with the number Three but magnified part of the rod cap number is more obscured rather than clear.....

The out of sequence rod cap number ...
