Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

Well after adjusting the valves it seem to perk up, but it's still running flat a little. While adjusting the valvesi put an oil pan down to catch the oil. As I as pouring the spent oil I noticed the dreaded shimmers of metal. I guess the only other thing left to do is to prepare the engine on the s...

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

I took the rockers off and checked for cracks, no cracks. I checked the pushrods by rolling them on a piece of glass, non of then were warped. I'm gonna try a hot valve adjustment and see if that works. I should notice some sort of change. If not then I'll just be driving it on 5 cylinders for now. ...

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

No, the compression on number 2 is still 0. I even put my finger over the hole while i used the remote start and no pressure at all. I'll see if I can pick up some used 140 exhaust system and adjust the valves while the engine is running.

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

I adjusted cold because I had the headers off, it's pretty hard to adjust with them on. I adjusted a quarter of a turn, I possible could readjust with a feeler gauge.

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

Today I had time to do some more troubleshooting. I did a leak down test on on the number 2 cylinder by setting it to TDC, set to compressor to 100 psi and saw about a15psi loss. I listen through the exhaust no leaks, remove the oil filler cap no loud hissing, listened through the primary carb on th...

Re: Cylinder #2 no compression

Yes the readings with were taken with all the plugs out. The cylinders were honed, standard size rings used. I didn't measure the piston to cylinder clearance. I'll check the lifter as recommended. Could you expand on the lifters being pumped up more. Also since I didn't see any changes with the rig...

Cylinder #2 no compression

About 3 months ago I replaced all the rings and pistons and rod bearings because the left bank had little compression and cylinder number 2 had no compression. The car drove perfectly after that repair and I thought my engine woes were over. Now I know you guys are gonna say I should have did a comp...

Re: Late Model Trunk Lock Replacement #

Charles, I don't have a part number for you but there are a lot of them out there online. I am looking for the same thing for a 1965 Monza/Corsa Turbo Convertible. I ordered one and it was too big. The 1965 has a number of unique parts and the trunk lock is one of them. Some of the sites list the s...

Re: Late Model Trunk Lock Replacement #

I know all too well who can sell me the exact parts that I need, but as a consumer it is my right to shop around for the "BEST" price and option for me. Brad, while I appreciate all of your knowledge and expertise in the area of the Corvair and at many times you have been very helpful. Sometimes a s...

Re: Front End Suspension Upgrades

I purchased mine from Ebay, but seperately. I should have purchased the whole kit you're showing there. I would suggest that you get the press in lower ball joints vs. the screw in as shown in your photo. This kit will take care of your whole front end and you will be happier with the improvement. D...

Re: clutch adjustment

Hmmm it is only hard to get in 4th gear? How about 1-3. All the clutch does is disengage the engine from the transmission allowing smoother easier shifts. If the clutch was causing the problem I would expect to see some issues in the other gears as well. If it grinds going into 4th while moving and...
