Re: Miking the cam
A new cast gear should be fine for a stocker especially with a 260 cam. As far as measuring the peak lift of the cam lobe, it's not square on the top, but ground with a slight slope to induce lifter rotation. Your initial measurements are typical of what I have measured. Have you run engines with t...

Re: Miking the cam
Good to know. Definitely going to go with a new gear too then. Thanks!

Re: Miking the cam
Thanks Ted, I think I’m gonna do the same and probably go with an Isky 260 and a stock cam gear bc I haven’t altered the heads. Is it possible to reuse a cam gear and have it pressed onto an aftermarket cam shaft?

Miking the cam
In the process of measuring lobe lift on my camshaft. I’m doing this simply by using a micrometer on a stock 140 cam. My question is one of tolerance. In the back of the manual it’s states the lobe lift should be .260 but it never says anything about tolerance. I’m getting values that vary from .255...

Re: The Quarantine Vair
Been reading Helt’s book on the carburetors and it looks like I’m in the possession of 4 63 carbs. Also turns out my “new” engine is from a 66 and not a 64. My question is, since I’m trying to run a 4 carb setup with 4 (primary) 63 carbs, can I modifying two of these carbs to be secondary carbs by c...

Re: The Quarantine Vair
Been working on cleaning up the heads and noticed this mark is machined into the mating head. So clearly it’s supposed to be there but is there a purpose to it? Wouldn’t it prevent the head from sealing properly to the cylinders?- Fri Apr 03, 2020 6:40 pm

Thanks Scott, I’ll always hesitant with using the torch for that reason but I’ll give it a shot lol

Re: The Quarantine Vair
A lot has happened in a week- in the world but more importantly... on the Quarantine Vair. 60748712786__56707DF3-CEA7-4D9A-B613-A8BA18C33EBB.JPG Meet Lucy, she’s out of a 64 Spyder and has been sitting for a while, but she’s finally getting the attention she deserves. I want fast and cheap so I coul...

Re: The Quarantine Vair
This 1965 110 hp 164 CI engine resides in a Corvair Monza that is sitting in San Antonio. Seller says it is "not running", but cars like this may be worth examining if they aren't too far from you. You might just come across a solid engine that just needs some TLC to be transplanted into ...

Re: The Quarantine Vair
So at least one of my heads is trash. Tomorrow we’ll find out about the other one. Knowing I at least need a new head, pistons and cylinder (and probably a camshaft?), I feel like finding a used engine and salvaging those parts would be the cheapest way to go. I’m also tempted to go with a set of 6 ...

The Quarantine Vair
Hey all, I drove this beauty through my junior and senior years of high school until I lost compression in half the engine. I since have gone away for college and she’s been sitting. Corona has sent me home and kept me here which means it’s time to get back to work. IMG_0936.JPG 60652700393__969C0BB...

Ignition Help Needed
Good Afternoon, I am looking for some advice as to what I did wrong in setting up my ignition coil/module. Recently, I replaced what I thought to be a broken ignition module, however, this was not the case. The owner before me had an XR3000 installed and in order to bypass the resistor, decided that...

Re: Smokin' Deals!
No Lakewoods, they have 2 or 3 Greenbriers and the rest are mostly EM with some LM. Might add, none of these are running and probably half of them actually have an engine in them.

Re: Smokin' Deals!
CORVAIR JUNK YARD: AMARILLO In Amarillo there are about 16 Corvairs (nice and rusty) which are getting ready to be trashed. The owner bought a RV park and with it came the cars, long story short he is cleaning up the park and getting rid of these cars. During the summer I came by and picked some par...
