Re: corvairs in the United Kingdom
Do you have mine? KPL 47C '65 but imported in 71 after it had been exported from US to the US embassy in Kuala Lumpa, Malaysia. (Incidentally, KPL 49C is a mark 2 Jag that overtook my car with my mate driving on the way home from picking it up, I was following behind and was confronted with the 2 ca...

Re: Welcome
Wow, thanks for the link, I just found a picture of my corvair in it's original paint! Shame it doesn't look quiet as good now, but it will do. Now I have been forced to do something I said I never would and sign up to Facebook, the old owner is on there, so I have to say hi and piece together a bit...

Re: Newbie from the UK, just saying Hi
Hi, Small wo led, it was this car on eBay a couple of years ago that got me looking at corvairs too! I think it had just come over then, had a rust hole in the bottom of the left wing if I remember and the seller said it needed floors, it was more than that by the sound of it! Anyway, a month or so ...

Connecting rod big end size
Hi, About to have my rods resized. Can anyone confirm what the size should be, it doesn't appear in the manual as far as I can see? I found this on an eBay add for sealed power bearings, but was just looking for confirmation from a reliable source! Housing Bore Minimum: 1.9247" Housing Bore Max...

Re: Some new questions
Well, first hand experience tells me, if you don't use sealant then it will leak! I put mine together dry, no grease admittedly, filled it up put it back in the car and it leaked, even before I ever fired it up and got the oil warm. Had to take engine and trans back out and split it, luckily Clarks ...

Make sure you support the upper arms when you push the new bushings in.

Re: Throttle cross shaft improvement
Nice work on those shafts. I bought the clarks ones and replaced mine, and must say, while they were made in China, I couldn't find anything wrong with them! Nice if you can do it yourself though. I was offered a milling machine for free a month or so ago, but I really don't have the space, and as y...

Throttle cross shaft improvement
Hi, I thought I would share a simple fix I did on my throttle shaft. After I rebuilt my engine I was having real trouble getting the idle speed down without it stalling. If you let the revs drop slowly it idled too fast, if you let it drop quickly it would stall. I soon realised it was the slop in t...

Is it the white with blue stripe one that sold on eBay the other day?
My mate rang me as he thought I might be interested for spares, as I have a late model and all that appeared to be left was bodywork, it wasn't a lot of use!

Re: RE-built engine only lasted 50 miles!
There were tell tale signs, if I had realised what they were. When the engine had run for a while, there was a fair amount of vapour coming from the crank case vent and oil from the filler tube. I had thought it was pressure due to blow-by as the rings hadn't seated yet. I now realise it was probabl...

Re: RE-built engine only lasted 50 miles!
Right, finally had time to get in there. So, 2 rods appear to have had their bearings spun. image.jpeg image.jpeg The crucial thing here is, the worst one that has worn through, measures 2 thou out of round on the Conrod, strangely under size inline with the rod. The main bearings appear to have onl...

Re: RE-built engine only lasted 50 miles!
I have the engine out but not stripped down yet. The first thing I have noticed is the oil cooler had very little oil in it and the top return passage on the adaptor block is spotlessly clean. Now, it may just have drained down, but it seems too clean, the cooler isn't blocked as I can blow through ...

I would think you could overheat the oil if the cooler was blocked without the head temp light coming on as that is fair

Re: RE-built engine only lasted 50 miles!
Hi, By shimming I meant, chose the right thickness gasket. The oil certainly overheated as it burnt and black, but don't know if that was the cause or symptom of the heat from the bearing disintegrating? So oil cooler could be possible. It wasn't blocked as I cleaned it out, maybe the adaptor or the...

Re: RE-built engine only lasted 50 miles!
Hi, Yes I did with the old ones, which were OK, but I decided to change them anyway, I didn't remeasure with the replacements. The only possibility is that although I ordered 20thou and I can see the big end bearings are, I can't check to confirm the mains were actually 20thou, yet. If I was sent th...
