1964 Spyder needs work - who can help?

Greetings, I am in search of someone in the Detroit area who can do some work on my Desert Beige "64" Spyder Coupe. I have owned it since 2012. I was driving it during the summers until fall of 2016. It always had a serious differential leak and in my opinion was running too hot as well. Thermister ...

U-Pick Corvairs

Greetings, I am not sure if these were posted already, but there are four (4) Early's up for recycling and then I am sure the shredder. They are as follows, three coupes ... 1960, 1961, and 1964, and one 1962 convertible. There are many good usable parts left but much is gone. Engines, carbs ...

Re: Corvair's by Lake St. Clair

Yes, the salt is finally gone (I hope) and the classics are coming out of hibernation all over metro Detroit. I have taken my Spyder out a couple times - running great, boost is strong. I need some repairs such as output shaft seal and while in there a new clutch assembly of course. It needs ...

Re: Corvair's by Lake St. Clair

It's a "1963" 327 Split Window. The owner says he bought 40 years ago too! Nice!

Sometimes there are perhaps 200 cars that show up, this is just a weekly cruz too! Definitely the Motor City at its best!

Corvair's by Lake St. Clair

Howdy all, These pics are from a local Fri night cruz on the shores of beautiful Lake St. Clair which lies just to the north and east of Detroit. Canada is about 20 miles across the lake at this point. Photos display my "64" Spyder Coupe, along with two friends' Corvair's, one is a "64" Monza Conv ...

Re: Carter YH Metering Jets

Okay, I installed the correct stock rod and jet for the "64" YH. I drove it twice and definitely seems to have more power as the RPM's increase, which it should because more fuel is flowing. The air/idle setting is more defined than before. It sounds a little different when idling, I can really hear ...

Re: Carter YH Metering Jets

Okay, the these are some of the things suggested here that I have tried: 1. Fuel pressure regulator. I had one (Holley) in for a while set to 3psi but it started leaking so I removed it. After some time without it I cut off one coil from spring in the fuel pump but have no idea what the pressure is ...

Re: Carter YH Metering Jets

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions, I like the cold air idea. I used Bob Helts book to rebuild the carb but I never liked the choke setting I ended up with. I tried different settings on the cover but was not happy with it. I finally found a setting where the fast idle (cold) works good and ...

Carter YH Metering Jets

Howdy, I have been having some difficulty getting my Carter YH to run properly after the car sits and is still hot/warm. It tends to run at a much lower idle for a few minutes (5-6) than eventually finds a nice 850 rpm that I have set. Now, I have a "64" YH (0-1580 body #) with the stock "63 ...

Re: Random Guy Poll

The most common comment I hear is "that's a Corvair, you sure don't see many of these any more", and my response is "I do, just gotta know where to look".

Re: Need a little carb advice.

Howdy, I have a "64" Spyder Coupe and have tolerated a long process of getting the YH to idle properly. First, I started with a fairly clean YH 1580 (body number) that was not original to my car, I found it locally on craigslist, the carb tag was missing of course. I immediately replaced the pump ...

Re: RecessBilly's Worklog '63 Spyder project

recessbilly, Looks really nice, something I want to do to mine too. I have to do the clutch and differential seals soon, perhaps next spring I will pull the whole driveline out and repair. For now though, I drive it and have a blast! You gave me some ideas, what kind of paint did you use? how did ...

Re: RecessBilly's Worklog '63 Spyder project

recessbilly, It looks like you have a correct Spyder warning buzzer, very unlikely that someone mounted it and wired it after the fact. I am guessing that your left fender was replace or worked on at some point, that may account for the mislocated script. Your right side emblems look fine. Oh, I ...

Re: RecessBilly's Worklog '63 Spyder project

recessbilly, Howdy, I sent you a pic of my "64" Spyder script that is in the correct position from the Willow Run factory as a reference. As you may know, "64" Spyder's are unmistakable because they are a separate model according to the VIN #, they are either a 627 (Coupe) or a 667 (Convertible ...
