Re: air dam rampside
the vent door was standard on all 1964-'65 FC's, so yes, it can be installed on a Rampside. How difficult it would be to install one where one never existed before, I have no idea.

If the body is solid, I'd say that would be in the ballpark.

Re: Help! Possible 62' rampside purchase and what to look fo
Just as a reference, I bought a rust-free Loadside with a very nice new paint job, 4-speed and a brand new engine for less than the asking price of the one you're interested in. Granted, mine needed a thorough cleaning and interior work and some electrical repair. But compared to doing extensive rus...

P.S. It isn't air conditioned as your original post stated.

Re: Help! Possible 62' rampside purchase and what to look fo
If it's the one for sale at the car dealer in New York, and the body's solid, I'd guess about $6K. Drawbacks (to me) are the mileage on the original drivetrain and the 3-speed transmission. A Powerglide or 4-speed would be a lot better.

Re: Help! Possible 62' rampside purchase and what to look fo
The 3 most important things to check for are rust, rust and rust. I would be VERY suspicious of any Rampside which has spent most of its life in the salty Midwest. Carefully check the cab around the wheel and door openings for signs of rust or poor repairs. Also check the rocker panels on both sides...

The covers will interchange, but you'll need to have the early-model fan to fit the early-model bearing.

Re: Halogen Headlights
I haven't used Clark's headlights, but I've put halogens from the auto parts store (Sylvanias, I believe) in all of my Corvairs. I recommend them highly.

Jeff, from what I can see in the pics your car looks very nice! Do you know about the Corvair Club of Cincinnati?

Re: Door Window removal 62 Monza Wagon
It's been a while, but as I recall you must remove the entire vent window frame assembly, then the door glass just slides forward and the rollers will come off of the window tracks. The glass can then be lifted out of the door.

I'd check for a worn points plate first. Next would be a check of what jets are in your carbs. My cars seem to run best with .053 jets in them.

Re: Were crate engines manufactured in the 70's & 80's?
Just a guess on my part, but I would think that when Corvair production shut down that there would be no new engines produced. Didn't Chevy reuse the aluminum foundry facilities from the Corvair when they introduced the Vega some 18 months later? If so, Chevy would have needed some time to revamp th...

Re: Spyder Clutch
Corvair clutches should operate pretty easily. Have you tried lubing the cable and pulleys? Did the problem come on suddenly? If so, I'd suspect the throwout bearing or pressure plate. Do you know if the car is running stock parts? Some aftermarket pressure plates can be considerably stiffer than st...

I've done it both ways. If you need to do exhaust work anyway you might as well take them off. Otherwise, you can still do an acceptable job with the exhaust system in place.

Re: New member & total novice looking for all the help I can
I think the oil leak/smell is from leaky pushrod tube seals -- a universal Corvair problem and relatively easy to fix. The sloppy shifter on early Corvair vans is also common, but careful adjustment and replacement of worn parts (especially the shift coupler at the end of the long tube that attaches...
