Re: Front Brake Line replacement
FYI, the fitting is not meant to seal. It only applies pressure to the flare itself, which creates the seal. I have seen a lot of compression fittings with teflon tape on the fitting threads, but it doesn't do anything.

Re: Fuel Pressure and Stalling
It looks like the fuel lines still run through the mechanical pump. If it hasn't been blocked off internally, a bad diaphragm could be leaking gas into the crankcase.

Look 2 lines further down, Jerry!
Ed, all I can advise is to carefully investigate, you can probably get it out OK if you can determine what is holding it in place.

Re: Blower Bearing or Idler Pulley Bearing?
If it's making that much noise, you should be able to tell by taking the belt off and spinning them by hand. You can feel it through the end of the shaft it is mounted on if it's not making noise at low speed.

Re: Harmonic Balancer
Ed never said that he didn't have a pulley, just that he didn't have a harmonic balancer. So he probably doesn't have a bolt problem. Also, ED, Clark's sells a short puller that works without dropping the motor. Page 7 of the TOOLs section. http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/catalog.cgi?function=goto&a...

Welcome!
2 things to check on the shifter: the shift coupler and pin are known to wear and need replacement, also there is a nylon bushing on the front of the shift tube that is usually worn out or just gone.

Have you tested the transmission yet? You can disconnect it from the differential and test it with the input shaft to make sure the output shaft is working.

Re: Corvair Rampside
Welcome, Jeff. The doors and ignition should be keyed the same. There is a code on the door lock cylinder which can be used to cut a key. If you can't find a locksmith that can do that for American cars over there, there are people on this forum or Corvair Center that can make you a key and mail it ...

Re: I need pointers on an embarrassing problem.
Also check the flywheel, originals are riveted and WILL loosen up d/t extended use. This can cause starter-related problems also (dragging, gears slipping).
