Re: Confused

A friend had an 80's F-150 with 7-lug wheel covers. That caused some head scratching!

Re: The belt and such other newbie troubles

Also check the pulleys for rust. This will sand the sides of the belt down very fast.

Re: New guy from PA first Corvair

I have heard of remote master cylinders, you may be able to use the stock master cylinder to operate a remote dual master.

A little more expansion on my previous post: Look on the Resources page under Repair Manuals, they are broken into PDFs of single chapters.

Re: introduction

Welcome!
Get Bob Helt's book on the Corvair YH, he explains how everything works as well as very good tips on adjustments and setups. You can get it from Clark's or direct from Bob.

Re: Horns

There is a set of contacts inside the horns that probably need to be filed.
Drill and grind the rivets, you can bolt the halves back together.
I did mine on the Spyder, they went from nothing to sounding like new.

Re: New Member that missed the boat home.

It looks as if the ground is wired correctly, they used a red cable from the body to the motor. In the picture it looks almost like part of the positive cable, but you can see that it is connected at the body bolt.

Re: 66 corvair conv body sag

Check the floors for rust-through. The rockers are drains for the cowl vents, water from them travels the entire length and exits in front of the back tires. They are known to become plugged with leaves and rust the rocker panels from the inside. Try poking with a knife or screwdriver on the bottom ...

Re: Rampside hatches replacement bolts

Corventure Dave on the other forum used stainless steel flanged button head Allen socket head cap screws from McMaster Carr. 5/16 X 1/2 in long.
He also got the small ones for the side tins. Same stainless with flange button head allen.

You can also check the VIN against the hidden VIN on the frame to verify.

Re: Seat upholstery pattern

Left and right seat covers are identical. The trim and adjusters are the only things that make the seats left or right.

Re: Where does this bolt go?

If it is from the transmission mount, remove one of the other bolts and use it to check the threads in the hole, you may need to get a helicoil or drill and tap the hole for the next larger size.
