Re: Heater hose source
You can get all the sizes and varying degrees of quality of the hoses from Aircraft Spruce. The orange silicone hoses are high temp and if not rubbing last an incredibly long time. I don't know how pricing compares, I had an account and did get a break on the pricing, and because I piggybacked on co...

Re: Carb rebuild
I have a 61, and my carbs do not have that rubber piece either, but my 63 did. Some of the carburetors had a vent at the base of the carb and when on idle, the linkage would hit a tang on a piece of thin spring steel to open the rubber disk. If remember correctly it was designed to improve the idle,...

Here is one of my 61's. Such a fun fairly original car to drive.

Re: Dual Exhaust Hangers
I am aware, that Clarks sells them, but I don't want or need the attached hanger bracket. All I am looking for is a template that would let me create the sheet metal piece that actually attaches to the cylinder head. I have dual exhaust that does not match the factory set up so that attached bracket...

Dual Exhaust Hangers
Does anyone have a template for early model both left and right muffler hangers? I just need the sheet metal part with the hole layout and shape. I currently have a 61 and the previous owner installed dual exhaust with the backend supported straps attached to the body of the car.

Re: lucas oil top end cylinder treatment...
I have used an anitque oil injector that you plumb into the base of the carburetor on a couple of cars. On my aluminum V-8, 62 Buick Special I put over 100K miles on it, I also had one on my 56 Buick and also put over a 100K on it without any top end troubles. I ran Marvel Mystery Oil through them. ...

Re: The Right Stuff
The Red one is not a Corvair, looks like it may be a Ford product, I am not sure, I just know from the front bumper and roof line its not a Corvair. Like the shot of the 60 though! Very cool.

Re: stripped body weight
I don't know the weight, but would say its only in the few hundreds of pounds. I had my 61 stripped down, no suspension, interior, engine, glass, doors off and stripped interior. I am not a power lifter or anything, just your average schmo with the body on four stands. I could stand at either end an...

Re: Break-In Oil?
I am a big believer of, user and dealer for AmsOil and currently am using AmsOil Break-In Oil, product code BRKQT. I have always had good results with AmsOil products and use them in all my vehicles. Up Front on the Break-In Oil, this is my first use of it and it is currently in my 1961 Corvair that...

Re: Interesting Corvair wagon sold on Hemmings
I owned the wagon prior to the owner who sold it. I know he did a lot of work to it, and while not necessarily my thing, I liked what he did. It sure will attract attention where ever it shows up. It was a fun daily driver for me, with the work he did should be even better now. Somebody got a pretty...

Re: Clanking Crank Pulley
This weekend I removed the pulley I thought was clanking, and replaced it with a spare I had. The spare is a riveted assembly also, but I noticed that the rivets were set different than the one on the car. On the spare pulley the rivet head and tail were of the same style with the tail side being a ...

Re: EM Convertible Top Replacement - rear trim rail
If you can determine the dimensions of the tack material on the rail there is alternative material available. They sell a flexible, somewhat self healing plastic alternative. I bought all new for the headliner of my 55 Pontiac. It comes in many widths and thicknesses, I posted a link to a sample on ...

Clanking Crank Pulley
Can anyone tell me if they have experienced this. When my car is idling I hear a clanking sound, under initial acceleration it gets louder and then once driving it seems to go away, or at least I cant hear it with all the other road noise. I checked everything, and I am drawn toward the crank pulley...

Transmission Shims
I am struggling with some Toe Out on my rear wheels. Does anyone have a template for the Transmission Shims so that I can make some? A picture with some dimensions, drawing, anything that would help me get them made before I get under the car to add them.

SoCal/Inland Empire Wheel Alignment Shop
I need a 4 Wheel Alignment for my 61 Coupe. I am in Southern California, in the Inland Empire area. I called a shop from an answer to a previous post from two years ago by someone else. That shop no longer does Corvairs. Anyone who knows a place in the OC, Eastern LA County, Riverside, San Bernardin...
