Re: Today I drove my Corvair to...

Today I drove my Corvair to the store an on the way home, was amazed at seeing how someone managed to hit a fire hydrant. I mean she is on the wrong side of the road....actually off of the road. Notice none of the cones are down. At least her engine is going to be nice and clean. https://yo...

Re: Starting/Ignition Switch Issues

Thanks, terribleted and bbodie, I will start looking at my wires and harness and try to find it, but like mentioned intermittent is a real bugger. Thanks to both of you for your thoughtful and informative replies.

Starting/Ignition Switch Issues

I HATE intermittent issues and that is what I am dealing with now. I have a 61 Monza, with a powerglide transmission. On any given day the car starts absolutely beautifully, often in the morning I just reach in and turn the key and it starts right up. The issue is every once in a while, totally rand...

Re: 65 convertiblel

To the best of my knowledge, Chevy only had a temperature switch or thermistor on the C/S or Right side of the engine. I add a cylinder head temperature gauge to my cars, and put its sensor on the R/S or Left Side of the engine on the #4 Spark Plug.

Title this One BAD Bicyclist!!!

Driving home and look what this and had to deal with this. Even though she clearly ran the red light, she blamed me when I passed her. Watch her run a second red light at the very next intersection.

Re: Convertible top costs.

You should be able to find the tops on line much cheaper than the $2,500 to $3,000 range you are getting. I had a 62 Buick Special Convertible for over 30 yrs I bought and installed the tops from on line. You didn't say what year your Corvair is, but here area couple of links just to ones site for E...

Re: Chevy Bowtie Mirrors

Mine were so loose that driving along I would check my mirror and only see the ground. I pulled the snap ring that holds the mirror in and found that the friction is provided by a plate with a piece of nylon/plastic held in place by a piece of metal riveted to the mirror housing. My plastic was all ...

Re: Rear Grill Repair

I am not sure what aluminum alloy GM was using, but it is most likely in the 3000 or 5000 series of alloys. Clean off the clear anodize and oil in the area of the tear and you should be able to have them welded. I am not sure how bad yours are but after the repairs even if you polish the repairs, th...

Re: Digital Dash gauges

I have put a Cylinder Head Temp (CHT) and Oil Pressure, and also built a cluster for CHT, Oil Pressure and Oil Temperature. You have plenty of room under the dash to make something fit and look nice. Just a pain to run the wires and oil tubing all the way under the vehicle but I think it is worth th...

My 61 was original and it was primer with a light coat of the body color covering the primer.

Re: Today I drove my Corvair to...

Had a beautiful Saturday here in SoCal, so I took the Corvair up the hill behind my house. A few miles drive up a winding mountain road takes me to an overlook I look up at from my backyard all the time. I took a number of pictures and one person took a picture of me with the car. Why ruin a good pi...

Re: New Arrival

Just an update, have put over 2K on it since getting it. Runs great, doesn't leak, and has low oil consumption. Enjoying the heck out of it, only thing is previous owner put wrong size tire, one size too small. I really notice it on the freeways around here. They are too nice though to get rid of ev...

That would be a real nice car to get. Looks like someone has been giving it some love. I sure would like a convertible to too, but just bought a coupe and well damn it is in Ohio.

New Arrival

I am getting ready to sell my Lakewood, and couldn't wait for a replacement. I have been looking around and actually wasn't necessarily looking for another Corvair when I found this beauty. It is SOLID, with no rust and floor boards and underside that should be envied. The interior has new carpeting...

Re: Today I drove my Corvair to...

Well let me give this another try. Since I drive my Corvair almost every day, and I have a dash cam I get lots of shots of where I drove my Corvair. Here is a typical day. Driving to work in the morning and heading home in the evening. My wife and I have driven cross country many times and the sight...

Re: Today I drove my Corvair to...

Not today, but one of the more fun sections of my drive home. Southern California freeways often suck, but the Waze app takes you off road. This is one of my alternate routes home. Lots of twists and turns that are a lot more than what the video indicates. Even so I always catch traffic, usually wit...
