Re: Engine removal
Not to start an argument, but its 3 nuts on an early model. You still have to deal with the clutch cross shaft, shift linkage, axles/ wheel removal, throttle linkage at bell crank. While I would encourage a first timer to get help, preferably from a "Corvair person", someone who knows wha...

Re: Convertible shoulder belt mount
I have never seen a Corvair Convertible with a shoulder harness mount. I do not believe that shoulder harnesses were mandated during Corvair production.

Re: Engine removal
You need to disconnect almost everything you would need to disconnect to remove the engine only as you would need disconnect to remove the entire powertrain. On an early model (pre 65), everything needed to remove the powertrain will be removed except the 2 nuts at the forward transmission mounts wh...

Re: 66 Corsa 140/4spd to 65 Monza
pretty easy swap. Youi need the entire 66 transaxle including input shaft and differential ujoint connection parts as the bolts on the 665 unit are larger than the 65 ones. You also need to use the 66 shifter tube (or at least the stabilizing link) as the stabilizer rod at the back is a different le...

Re: Preparing floor for new carpet
Thank you for the help. Yes, I know Jeff well. I think i can use these housings. The problem are the doors. I called Clark's and they didn't mention this kit you speak of. In fact the girl said they only had used stuff. Maybe we got our communication crossed. A rebuild kit would b e awesome. Does a...

Re: 67 engine dies when warm
After reading this entire thread I did not see any suggestion to check for flooding. Check to see if either carb is flooding fuel into the engine. At idle with the air cleaners removed look down each carb throat (manually move the choke plate to vertical so you can see) and if you see any liquid fue...

Re: Clutch keeps needing adjusment
where the adjusters are on the rods is not really relevant. What is relevant is if you have followed the step by step adjusting procedures in the appropriate shop manual or manuals for your year Corvair. Another thing to check is the clutch lever where the cable connects to the right of the pedal. S...

Re: Headlights Out, High Beams Work, Buuuuuttt....
Very good chance this is a dimmer switch or corrosion at the dimmer switch plug issue.

Painted same as the rest of the painted interior items (A pillar trim for instance). The inside steel of the doors and posts generally matched.

Re: Window tint?
Vent windows are also either tinted or not. If you have a mismatch then swapping glass so they match is best. It is not an extremely easy task as adjustment can be tinkersome but, it is not terrible especially if only doing door glasses.

Re: 64 4 speed clutch pedal to floor
Sounds like the cable is broken. Are you sure it is attached to the transfer lever to the right of the clutch pedal? I have never seen a broken clutch rod and even if it was broken the return spring back there would still pull the pedal back up. If everything in the linkage is still in place then ma...

Re: High beam adjustment foot pedal
When replacing the high beam floor mounted witch, be sure to look at the wiring plug for corrosion. Corrosion in the plug is a common issue and can cause a variety of headlamp issues. Clark's sell a replacement wiring pigtail for this (new plug and contacts with 6-8" of wire attached to splice ...

Re: Idle and driving issues once it reaches 240 degrees oil temp
240 is pretty high for oil temp. I have not driven many Corvairs equipped with an oil temp gauge but, those that I have are generally 200-230 oil temp when running hard on a hot day. Very well may be overheating which will cause them to run poorly once hot enough. Overheating is usually accompanied ...

Re: 13 inch tires for 66 corvair
thanks everyone for your help i found maxxis tires for $64.00 on line Are you sure these are the Maxxis MA1 185/80R 13 AUTOMOBILE tires for that price?? They have a trailer tire that i have seen at around this low price in the same size 185/80R13 but it is not for use on cars. If you got the MA1's ...

Re: 67 engine dies when warm
Sounds like possibly the idle speed when warm is simply too low to keep the engine running. How fast is the idle speed when the chokes are on and it is cold? Should be between say 1500 and 2250RPM maybe. I might try turning up the idle speed pretty high to see if the engine will run once the chokes ...

Re: 13 inch tires for 66 corvair
The only real choice in a 13 that is the correct size (or at least very close for all year Corvairs) Is the Maxxis MA-1 in size 185/80R 13. price these on Amazon, simpletire.com, and walmart.com to compare prices. They vary from around $110-130 each.
