Re: dropped the front end of my 64 2''
i've heard that as i drive it, it may settle and lower even more. is this true? I doubt it, perticularly it you are using the original springs. I have heard people talk of springs settling after install of new drop springs. Perhaps this is true. I have cut a number of original springs and never had...

Re: dropped the front end of my 64 2''
Hey Ted, on your '65 did you then cut the bump stops on the shocks? I lowered my '65 and I love the way it sits but it bottoms on the bump stops and rides very stiff up front. Of course:) I used only a short piece sawsall to the rescue. The car rode great all the time just had to watch for sharp ho...

Re: dropped the front end of my 64 2''
Watch out for bumps. I dropped my 65 nearly 2" the same way. I loved it as well. I works fine except for bottoming out every now and then on some bumps...mostly at speed and bumps with relatively sharp edges (pavement ends for instance).

Re: 4 Carb Linkage setup HELP!!!
Yup 69 shop manual says 1 1/16 for float level adn 1 9/16 for drop. If they are at 1 1/16 inches and you have leakage and think maybe they are over flowing set at 1 3/32- 1 1/8 instead see if it helps. I usually set 1/32 inch extra.

Re: clutch adjustment
Hmmm it is only hard to get in 4th gear? How about 1-3. All the clutch does is disengage the engine from the transmission allowing smoother easier shifts. If the clutch was causing the problem I would expect to see some issues in the other gears as well. If it grinds going into 4th while moving and ...

I have used Clark's kits for years. They seem to be excellent.

Re: Seat belts
Here's what I did. http://www.persh.org/Corvairs/seatbelts.htm Nearly indentical to how I have done 3 point front belts on late models , except I have always been painting the car anyway so I weld in the anchor. When using a retractable belt I often weld a new anchor in the inner rocker panel as we...

Re: Rust problem
I have a 1966 Corvair Monsa 2Dr with heavy rust on the door frames, right below the hinge springs. It needs to be replaced but not sure how much or who could do this. Would it be better to jst buy a new body with no rust and swap them out? Has anyone done this and if so, how easy is it? That depend...

Re: Pertronix Ignitor?
To answer the timing question - as long as you're using the stock distributor, generally you should set the timing at the same point. The electronic units are only supplying a spark, the advance curve comes from the distributor. --Bryan Indeed this is true. in fact, due to having a better hotter sp...

Re: Pertronix Ignitor?
Electronic ignition conversions are excellent. Faster starts, more and smoother power, better idle, helps compensate or worn distributors (I recommend a new point plate regardless if it is worn at all at its vacuum advance pivot bushing) Best of all you never need to go adjust inaccurate points agai...

Re: New with 65 Corsa Conv. Turbo and 2 quick questions
lol.It would, but I found 4 forward gears, but couldn't find reverse. Also, there was a spare 3spd trans that came with the car, which is why I thought if there was a difference between the shifters, it might be a 3spd shifter on a 4spd trans The shifter was extremely sloppy/vague, so it may just b...

Re: Yanking the drivetrain on my 180 Horse....
Personally: engines are full of oil, and if you have a DD the reality is there's gonna be a mess under there no matter how good at sealing you are. Show cars are another matter. For me the easiest thing to do is powerwash it before breaking out hte tools, problem solved. I don't have a place to pow...

Re: NG from Upstate SC
Stalling when going into gear is likely either a low idle, severly retarded timing, or a vacuum leak. Most likely culprit is the rubber connectors at the base of the carbs where the vacuum balance tube mounts, or lack of a PCV oriface tube. You do not mention if the car is automatic or not. If it is...

Re: 4 Carb Linkage setup HELP!!!
All carb kits are for either primary or secondary carbs. The accelerator pump spring serves a return function in both primary and secondary cartbs. The secondary carb is not drilled for an accelerator pump to pump anything any where so you simply remove the rubber plunger from the new pump unit befo...

Re: Are the motors interchangeable?
You can swap any motor including the turbo into the FC. You need to use the FC mounts and sheet metal. If you want to use a 4 carb 140 or a turbo, modifications to engine cover height (turbo) or custom air cleaners (140/4 carb) are needed. All 2 carb motors can be used directly as long as you use th...

Re: Wheels that fit a 61 Greenbrier?
The bolt pattern is 5 on 4.75 in am pretty sure. In any case it is the same patern as late models, camaros, cultass's, and other mid sized gm's. The backspacing and width must be right in order to not rub (particularly in the rear) (seems like I remember Camaroish offsets working ok). I like my 15&q...
