Re: Clark's EM Padded dash painted

The one thing that I forgot, is that you have to find a paint shop that can mix the SEM colors to get an exact match. The one that I use is in Stafford Springs CT, and they just changed the name when it was bought out by NAPA owner. Perfect match every time.

Re: Clark's EM Padded dash painted

I have no idea what they paint with, however, I had a dash pad recovered by the same company that does the Clarks dashes, and the color wasn't correct for my car. I knew this from the beginning, so it wasn't a surprise. I had the local paint supplier color-match SEM vinyl paint and put it into a spr...

Re: NOS Oil Shock Absorbers

If the NOS shocks have been stored lying down, usually the oil keeps the seals soft and lubricated. I have sold a number of NOS shocks over the years, and never had a complaint about them.

Re: Spinner/Knockoffs

Junkman your info always amazes me. I wish I could download your brain to my computer as a knowledge base! I am old enough to remember these cars when they were first introduced, and I had a 1962 and a 1963 when they were new. My roommate in college had a loaded 1964 Spyder with the KH wheels, and ...

Re: Spinner/Knockoffs

In the production run, there was an arrow indicating OFF, or an arrow indicating ON, and it was up to the person doing the stamping which stamp that they used. I had a number of knock offs that had a lot of different stampings, and on one of them, it had the OFF stamp and arrow pointing at each othe...

Re: What is the age range of Corvair Fans? (POLL)

I've got 6 more months and I change age groups - then at least we will have 1 in the 76 "club" I have played with corvairs since got my new 63 Monza convert with all the HD options (semi metallic brakes, HD shocks, HD springs, 4speed, 102 hp engine & positraction differential. ...

Did you use a OEM type of seal, or did you use a Viton crank seal?

Re: Does this sound like a starter solenoid to you?

Electrical gremlins start when a car is left for a long time, and moisture gets to the contacts, and corrodes them. On a 50 year old car, if you are having electrical problems, it is a lot less expensive to buy all new reproduction wire harness's, then it is to loose the car to an electrical fire. I...

Going from memory, I believe that it goes on from the bottom, and is removed from the bottom. I don't believe that there is any metal in the rubber.

Re: advice on weatherstripping??

If you are referring to the vertical piece that buts up to the front door glass, it is just a friction fit, unless someone glued it in.

Re: 63 corvair advice

I would love to see some pictures of the engine, since I am putting my air conditioned 1962 back together after it being apart for the last 10 years. Some projects got pushed to the side and were forgotten, and unfortunately, this was one of them.

1962 Decoding Sequence Question

I was just reading the thread about decoding of the body tags, and I was wondering about the fist year full information is presented, (1962) how the letters were arranged. Is this the sequence that would be on the body tag if the car had these options, or were they in a alphabetic order? To clarify ...

Re: Does this sound like a starter solenoid to you?

I have a feeling that the problem isn't an electrical one, but a mechanical one. At both ends of the starter, there are bronze bushings, and when they wear, the armature can drop down a little, and when you turn the key, the magnetic attraction of the field windings, which are supposed to start the ...

Re: bench seat

I am relatively certain that if you were to visit some of the old car salvage yards in Arizona, you could find what you are looking for. If you call and ask, they will either say "NO", or invite you to come down to the yard in person, and look for yourself. If salvage yards had a dollar fo...

Re: Gas heater in the 1960 Corvair

The first thing to check are the ignition points, to see if they have become oxidized. A quick rub on each side of the points with the black side of a match book cover will fix that. Don't try to make any adjustments, just verify that everything is clean. I have always felt that if it was working wh...

Re: '68 Monza Clock?

Clocks are sometimes very difficult to tell exactly what they fit, unless they have some distinctive characteristic to them. An example would be the early model clock, they all look alike to the untrained eye, however, there are a couple of differences between them. The same with the Corvair dash cl...
