Thanks for the warning and concern guys - but it is my poor photography and/or odd angle...
The baffles are there - both sides!
Thanks...

Re: Cad-kid's 65 Monza - my first Corvair
I'm hoping to learn from you on this... Charge up that camera and keep the photos coming - I have nice seat covers, but, I fear I'll need to get inside and repair/reinforce some springs, foam, batting... I hope I'll be able to reuse my covers once done!
Thanks and I'm keeping my eye on this one...

Re: New-to-me 66 Corsa!
This weekend was relatively productive! I wanted to finish closing up the engine, first order of business was to replace the Pilot Bearing. I tried the bread thing, with no success… Then went to O’Reilly’s and checked out their “loaner tools” and found they had a nice pilot bearing puller attachment...

Re: EM Front suspension rebuild
Correct, the lower control arm bushing at the camber nut is a "C" section that you do not want to distort when pressing. All these are in the manual. Ya wanta buy mine? $15 delivered for one of each! At the link I provided there is a link to Corvair Forum, where there are more pictures of ...

Re: EM Front suspension rebuild
I think I paid ~$200 to have all of that blasted, but I did not go with powder coating. I used good old self-etching primer and a good enamel paint. Then I baked it for a few hours at > 100 Deg F in my "Paint Oven"... I doubt I had $30 in rattle can paint... Now when it is scratched, I tou...

Re: How to clean this up? (rear cover)
Interesting FAA fact! As I approach retirement, I just might reconsider the tool investment. We'll see how this trial classic goes!
Thanks and good luck with your project.

Jeremy (cad-kid) – thanks for the encouragement, you have been my greatest supporter. Sometimes ya gotta wonder if anyone values these updates! Gregory_Miller – thanks for the input… I hadn’t pulled the book out to look it up yet – and not going back together yet… But Thanks! Well, I’ve pulled all t...

Re: How to clean this up? (rear cover)
Nickshu - I started off asking what media to use, you suggest 100 grit beads. Do you do both sides with this? No problems with the pump cavity or pressure relief bore - or sealing surfaces? I'd love to have that barrel blaster, but, then I'd need a compressor to drive it... Why have that great compr...

Re: Torque for Yoke retaining bolt?
Rich - I can't find either in the specifications section of the 65 manual or 66 supplement. No listing for "Differential side bearing yoke retaining bolt" torque. Have you started this job yet? As you can see from other posts here - I've been staying busy on the engine... Hopefully by mid-...

Re: How to clean this up? (rear cover)
66vairguy (and Jerry Whitt) – I think a wire brush clean up and # 7715 Aluminum is now the plan. It is interesting that the aluminum was attacked at the ‘as cast’ parts, not any of the machined parts. I will continue to protect the machined surfaces as I do the brushing/external painting. The pressu...

How to clean this up? (rear cover)
So, I've seen Dave Motohead's video where he soaks and then sprays a rear cover and Boom - super clean shiny aluminum... (This is the link if you are interested http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSTfz6QT6PY ) I soaked the following overnight in the same purple power, scrubbed with bristle brush and a s...

Re: Engine compartment seal
NMVair - the 140 engine (with 4x 1 bbl carbs) was not built into a corvair until 1965 Model, so your 64 received this engine later. When you look for a 140 seal at any of the venders, it is likely a common part from 65-69. I don't know if it is better for you to use the 65-69 seal, and adapt to your...

Brad - thanks for the Video link - I watched that many moons ago, but is a good refresher... flat6_musik - good to see you posting again, have not seen you on the boards in a while... I agree, the engine is relatively clean, had to remove for the trans input shaft seal and wanted to touch-up what ma...
