Re: Pushrod squirting oil

That so called fresh air vent doesn't have any effect on the cooling of the engine is what i'm saying, when you open the air vent it's the same as having the hose off. :banghead: I drive my car all winter & once the interior is warm I turn the fan off & open the air vent to blow more air in & it sta...

Re: Pushrod squirting oil

Why would anyone say to block off the fresh air outlet, if the air lever is pushed down & letting air pass through are you going to tell me it might make the engine overheat. Yes the warm air might get pulled by the fan but some cars have fixed vents in the heater boxes that blow hot air into the en...

Re: Loose rear drive axle spines

Took me 3 days just to get mine off, "RUST". I don't know how they could loosen. I left my axle ends & yokes in diluted muriatic acid all night & still had to wire wheel the axles & they were still tight going back on.

Re: Loose rear drive axle spines

Take the axles to a plating shop and have the splines hard chrome plated, give them the yokes to so they can check them until they get a fit that's not sloppy. I could do it if still had my dad's plating shop. I used to hard chrome Fuller T-10 tranny gears that were cut wrong then they would recut t...

Re: summer/winter plate missing

I suppose if a little air were to be sucked in by the fan it could make a difference but I don't think it would be enough to make the engine overheat. Guess we need more opinions. If it were to be a problem then why did GM make some vents fixed like mine.

Re: summer/winter plate missing

There is no risk for overheating in summer, it's another vent to increase air flow. Especially if a thermostat fails & the damper door doesn't open.

Re: summer/winter plate missing

I have owned 3 Corvair's in my 74 years. First was a new 62 Monza 102 HP 4 speed, no summer/winter plates. Second was a new 65 4 door 95 HP 3 speed, no summer/winter plates. Third is my 64 Monza coupe 110 HP powerglide, no summer/winter plates. None of them even had factory screw holes for plates. I...

Re: Smoke after long drive / Fumes in cabin

My 64 was doing the same thing, top cover of the engine block had all new gaskets when I replaced the fan bearing but it was leaking down onto the cylinders. The torque specs are something 7 to 13 Ft. Lbs. I used lock washers & re-torqued it but I went to 16 Lbs,started them at 10 then went to 12 th...

Re: Rear engine oil leak

They sure can, all you do is replace if you find that's the problem. I would check that first before taking things apart. I bought a new 62 Monza and the sending unit sprung a pinhole leak before it was 6 months old. Clean it up good & wrap a clean rag around it & see if you get any oil there. It wo...
